Ed is a fool the example is not applicable in any way. Rick is who he is! He not going to become a tough coach over night.
listen to what this guy is saying, suppositions based on conjecture. good talker though.
Wait, he says you need to drop the hammer first, and then you can ease up as the team comes together. I get that. But then he says CRN needs to drop the hammer this week? Six weeks into the season, 10 since fall camp started, and 2 1/2 years after CRN was hired? Am I missing something?
I don't think CRN has been lax in keeping the guys in check; this isn't the first time someone's been suspended due to "violating team rules." And I think that our players do present themselves, by and large, in a professional way. That being said, I do agree that maybe CRN needs to hold guys more accountable for their production on the field. Viney should have been playing in front of Hester last month, for example.
IN MY OPINION, Rick is the CEO of UCLA Football making X Million Dollars per year. It is his job to do what it takes to put a competitive team on the field. With all due respect to Mr. Gold who opines that Bruin fans are unrealistic and impatient, the minimum expectation is that our team will be COMPETITIVE. Spotting Cal 28 points fails to meet that expectation. We had to hear for 5 years of Dorrell, "Be patient." Now, we are 3 years into Rick's reign. I'm no longer patient. What? Are we going to have to endure a decade of disgust before we can expect a team that has heart and can compete in the P10?
Isn't Ed the same dinghole that two weeks ago said that UCLA should drop the pistol?
VB,
Even if we won the BCS Championship, it won't be added to the other 106 NCAA Championships. So yes, it will still be NONE...
VB, that has been the story of UCLA FB since I graduated in 1979.
It is nonsensical, as some posit including some beat reporters, that we cannot be COMPETITIVE now. And by that, I don't mean win every game. I mean COMPETE in every game. There is simply no excuse for the pathetic performance against Cal.
Rick: This all rests with you, baby! UCLA pays you handsomely to direct the FB program. You do not get your 7 figure income to produce a bad product. UCLA football last Saturday was a bad product -- plain and simple. I don't want anymore coach speak about 'making us proud' and 'fixing some things.' Skip the post game 'pep talk.' Use that time to get your azz in front of the team, the coaches, film, etc. and DO WHAT IT TAKES to be COMPETITIVE. I don't care if we are 2 years away from 9 or 10 wins. If we lose 6 this year, so be it. But, dammit, don't embarrass yourselves anymore!
Although it bothered at first listen I think Vinny's observations and remarks on the JV show were right on the money. He said that he had been to both USC and BRUIN practices and the talent and performance level is just not the same. Maybe Vinny's insight is true! Perhaps he Bruins DON'T have the talent needed to compete right now!
It's nice that someone came out and stated the obvious but c'mon...Duuuuhhhh! When the coaching staff starts to demand more during practice and preparation it will show on the field in less bone headed penalties, missed assignments, etc.
I have been a teacher and coach for 35 years........it is harder to get tuff, than it is to let up after being tuff....just food for thought? Do we want to go back 4 or 5 years? HELL NO...that was UGLY......we had no chance, now we have at least a chance every week.
@doug4ucla - I reject your reality and substitute the one in which we had ZERO chance against Stanford and CAL...
