Prince out for season

| | Comments (16) |

UCLA sophomore quarterback Kevin Prince is out for the rest of the season after arthroscopic surgery on Saturday  to determine the extent of a torn meniscus in his right knee, likely injured during the second quarter of the Bruins' 34-12 win over Texas in Week 4.
In addition to the repair of the meniscus, doctors performed microfracture surgery to stimulate the growth of new cartilage on the former Crespi quarterback.
Prince, who has dealt with numerous injuries in his two seasons as starting quarterback, missed the Bruins' 60-13 loss at No. 1 Oregon on Thursday, as well as the team's 42-28 win over Washington State in Week 5.
Backup sophomore Richard Brehaut took over in both and, and against the Ducks, completed 16-of-23 passes for 159 yards and an interception, particularly costly, as it came as the Bruins were driving toward the red zone on the first drive.
"We moved the ball great all day long, but when it came down to stick it in  red zone or finish a drive out, we couldn't find ways," Brehaut said. "We have to go in and watch that film and we have to figure out why we can't do that."

Larimore Out
An MRI on Saturday confirmed middle linebacker Patrick Larimore's dislocated left shoulder, separated during the second series against Oregon.
A UCLA official said that Larimore would likely be sidelined for three weeks for "rest and rehab."

Very tough breaks for the Bruins. Their problems are compounded by essentially losing the quarterbacks of both the defense and the offense (middle linebackers call the defensive play).

Unforturnately, the prognostication that the quarterback controversy would play itself out given Prince's history with injuries came true. Here's hoping Kevin and Patrick makes a full and speedy recovery.

However, it is the next Bruin up. UCLA must rally around Richard Brehaut and Steve Sloan while making the critical push to become bowl eligible. The team must find 3 wins in the next 5 games.

Not exactly. 3 more wins gets us to 6-6 overall, but we'd be under .500 in conference. We'd be left praying for an invite again.

Nice grass roots effort, Rick, but you can't sell a bad product no matter how much of a discount you apply.

Breaking News:
Prince is a game-time decision for Arizona game according to Neuheisel. The starter for 2011 is Prince because we couldn't develop and recruit a better qb. I will no longer here because I will be fired for inability to coach.

Yoda's Diaper Service: Even if Brehaut didn't turn it over 3 times in his second career start ever we would have still only had 3 field goals (22-60) or 3 touchdowns (34-60).

Hard to fully blame Brehaut on this one. This one is like you said mostly on the coaches but rather on the defensive side if you ask me.

Now that Prince is out we've a got an offense built around the threat of a QB option but it's no threat at all because Brehaut can't run, and everybody knows it. Neuheisel looked totally befuddled and clueless after the game. Sorry guys but I just don't think he's(ever)going to be the man to right the ship. If he were we would be at least competitive at this point. He recruits well but doesn't maximize the ability of his team. Dan Guerrero needs to get off his rather sizable fat ass and get to work looking for a coach worthy of the helm at UCLA.

Microfracture surgery? Yikes...if I'm not mistaken that puts him out all of spring drills as well. Best wishes to KP...he may not have produced the results everyone wanted to see on the field but I never questioned his toughness or leadership.

Brehaut, this is your team the rest of the season and perhaps all of of 2011 or until Hundley learns the offense. Put the offense on your shoulders and go get 'em!

Go Bruins!
