Brehaut on the concussion

Richard Brehaut, on his concussion:

"To be honest, I don't remember the plays after that. I can't remember what plays we ran. That's why they kept me out, because I couldn't remember. It's scary."

How could he tell the difference. He looked brain dead before the hit. So much for all of those who thought Brehaut was our salvation. And to those who thought, "Geez, give Bell the ball! He was GREAT in JUCO!" And to those that thought Norm and Rick stuck with Prince because they had a "love affair" with him or because he was Mormon, Pffffffffffff. It looks like Prince was our best shot all along -- and the coaches knew it. Unfortunately, Prince has been riddled with injuries, and while he is not Vince Young, he was at least serviceable. So maybe we can all stop coaching now and give Norm and Rick some benefit of the doubt that they used their expertise to put the BEST players on the field based upon their expert analysis.

And, we suck big time. What an embarassment: Harkey should be put on the scout team, He couldn't catch acold in Siberia. And Sheller, "Well, dude! What can I say Buddy? Man, it was like surreal when I had three drive killing penalties on three consecutive drives in the second half. Wo, like, I really had the munchies big time, bro, and just wanted to get off the field to grab some brownies out of my napsack."

I wish I could say the same thing about the game...

I think that is what makes last night so disappointing, I really thought Brehaut and the offense was coming along the last few games.

Ultimate Bruin,

Having had a daughter play D1 sports and suffered concussions I know first hand how dangerous it can be and what it does to short term memory.

Your comment about brain dead is way out of line. This is a human being here and someone's kid. Hopefully you, or one of your children, don't suffer the same consequences. I wish you well.

Seriously, hope the noggin is okay and you make a full recovery. But dude, WTF? If I’m one of the team captains, I’d have my thumb and index on your jugulars. The WRs were wide open in the 1st Q yet you sailed the ball way above them, WTF? You also had 1 CB vs 2 WRs yet you still failed to connect, WTF? All of these plays occurred before the concussion. Dude, stay off the energy drinks and sugar. And if you’re planning to slide, watch some Auburn tapes, Newton takes harder hits but he manages to be concussion free.

Hey Anon,

I did not say Brehaut was brain dead after the hit, I said BEFORE the hit! So, I was not wishing him any real physical ill-will. If you didn't understand the rhetorical nature of my post, then you must be brai . . . weel, you know! I don;t want you to get your panties in a bunch again! Chill dude (or dudette)

It became very clear last night that the coaches have been doing their best with the "talent" (or lack thereof) that we have. With a few exceptions (Moore, Dye, Ayers, etc.) the only real talent is YOUNG (Jones, Smith?, Riley, Zumwalt, Owa, Ward, etc.) I say play them all as starters now and get them whatever experience they can this year. Forget a bowl game. Work on next year. And HUNDLEY should be the #1 even with lack of experience. Go with the youthful talent. Let them stub their toes and get experience. Fumigate the locker room after these seniors graudate. Hold a seance. And light some candles!

Why all the negativity? We lost the game when Brehaut went out. With him, we would've had a good shot of winning. If you want to judge the team on what the backup qb's did, that's ridiculous.

VB, play Hundley? Do you seriously think that he's going to come here after what is happening on the field, with the game planning, and the prospect of a total coaching overhaul in the next couple of years?

I'd be shocked if Hundley isn't reaching out to a school where he'll have a better opportunity for (1) exposure, (2) the chance to play for a national championship, (3) an offensive line that will protect him, (4) a program that's likely to have the same coaches for 4 years, and (5) an offensive game plan that doesn't involve gimmicks as its core. Chances that Hundley enrolls are less than 50% in my opinion. The kid is far too good and this train wreck of a team/staff is far too bad. Gravity, my friend, gravity.

I don't remember what plays we ran immediately after that hit either, but if I guess "run up the gut" I've got about a 95% chance of being right...

Brehaut doesn’t have half the snaps the last two years as prince does and is more or less yielding the same results. Cut him some slack, he does need to improve on his decision making and reads but he is the best fit for us right now. Those changes are made taking more snaps, getting more experience and coaching.
I am puzzled on how 2 weeks to prepare for this game results in last night’s performance.
Ucla has had phenomenal recruiting classes since the neu regime however we are still as bad as when he took over. i don’t know why we aren’t getting these young kids some exposure. Oregon game was over at half time i don’t know why we didn’t put in some of the young guys (Owa, Zumwalt, Zumwalt, Ward and so on...) to get some experience in the fourth quarter. At least the last ten min of the game let them get a taste of playing the #1 ranked team - on national TV. I know there is still a chance (in hell) that we may make a bowl game, and neu being the "eternal optimistic" isn't cutting it anymore for me. i tried to see the silver lining but it doesn’t seem to be there, not this year at least.
Anyhow, that is why i am not a coach, just a frustrated bruin’s fan that is venting on this blog.

This program is like Groundhog Day and the fans are starting to invent new and creative ways to kill themselves knowing they will wake up and live it all over again next year.

re: Trojan_SF....I couldn't agree more. Neweasal used to play QB. He should know what it's like to come off the field after a poor throw or an interception. I've been watching him closely since he came to UCLA and he does it EVERY TIME. He screams and berates these kids. Pretty soon that takes alternative effect. Not only the QB will tune him out, but the rest of the players, as well. I think that's where this Bruin team is. They have tuned him out. You can't tell me UCLA doesn't have talent. He's recruited top players in a talent-laden LA area and they will end up 8th place in the PAC10 conference for the 3rd year in row. I think the monopoly is thriving.

At UB, I guess we will never know how good Prince really is, they guy gets hurt in just about every practice, and every game he's always had some type of injure coming into the game. At least with Brehaut, we were 2-1 (not counting Washington).
