Rich get richer, Duke gets Cook

Coveted 2011 point guard Quinn Cook, rated the No. 4 PG in the nation by Scout.com, has announced that he will play for Coach K and Duke next season, Adam Zagoria reported on his blog: Cook to Duke

UCLA got in the mix rather late for Cook, who took a visit along with Adonis Thomas - who chose Memphis last month - in late September. Duke was considered the favorite for a long time, but some recent developments gave UCLA a chance to sneak in, but the Blue Devils sealed the deal.

Cook told Scout.com's Evan Daniels that playing alongside Austin Rivers was too much to pass up: Cook

Let's not get overexcited about getting these multi-starred players who will come for a year or two and then turn pro. We need a good, solid point guard who is a team player, knows how to lead the break and the offense, and play good defense and stay for 4 years. There are plenty of guys around who fit that bill and are not the big name players at the time. See Tyus Edney, for example, or more recently Derek Glasser at ASU.

If Howland actually lets loose on the reins and sticks to his plan of going up-tempo, he might have a chance at guys like this. Otherwise, I would think they'd rather go someplace where they play a faster pace. UCLA is a great basketball school but who wouldn't want to play for Coach K? He's 63 so if I were recruiting against him, I'd be playing the he is getting close to retirement card. Will Coach K. be there until you graduate?
