UCLA v. Washington Report Card

UCLA REPORT CARD
RESULT: Washington 24, UCLA 7
RECORD: 4-6
WEEK 10 GPA: F+

QUARTERBACK
Trying not to add insult to injury, but Richard Brehaut was bad before concussion and Darius Bell, Clayton Tunney were worse without one.
F

RUNNING BACKS
Johnathan Franklin and Derrick Coleman are dancing too much, but behind this line, I get it.
D

WIDE RECEIVERS
WR coach Reggie Moore can't catch for them - and they need him to - but he can teach them to run good routes and fight for ball, and he isn't.
F

OFFENSIVE LINE
Somehow the running game dried up after second drive and pass protection was good. Can they be more schizophrenic?
D

DEFENSIVE LINE
Too often caught napping at the line of scrimmage, the undisciplined group lost gap control all game.
D

LINEBACKERS
Love the fire in Jordan Zumwalt, Sean Westgate, but they were blown out on some plays, simply pushed around.
C-

DEFENSIVE BACKS
Rahim Moore still talks best game around, but play hasn't matched the bravado.
D

SPECIAL TEAMS
What has happened to the UCLA kicking game? Just one-for-four last two weeks, though the one was a game-winner.
D-

COACHING
Absolutely stunning offensive play-calling, and the decision to go to walk-on Tunney was baffling.

And yet somehow, it seems like a given Coach Neuheisel will be back next year... for what exactly? More of the same I guess. It's pretty clear this coaching staff can't develop talent, scheme against opponents or inspire this team to wins. hundley is in all likelihood a goner, why would he come here?

Can you give out Gs?

Yeah, no offense to Tunney, but why the hell go to him after only two Bell-"driven" series? Unless there's something we're missing or we don't know all the facts, this was yet another baffling decision by our coaching staff. Freakin' theater of the absurd out there.

This is a team with no real leader and no heart. To play like they did last night was --- to use a oft repeated word lately --- inexcusable. No pride. I think Bell got pulled because he mouthed off to Neuheisal when he came off the field after his HORRIBLE pick 6 pass. That pass was HORRIBLE, and Rick chewed him out -- and Bell retorted. Check it out Jon, do some reportage on this one. I am sure you will find out that Bells' mouth got him pulled.

This performance is too dismal to even consider sharing opinions with my fellow posters. We are all, those who are Bruin fans and those who are obvious trolls, shell-shocked by the level of inadequacy this team exhibits. In reference to Bell mouthing off at Coach Rick, I've noted on many occasions ALL the QBs either turning a blind eye to Rick or saying something derogatory to him as he launches into another screaming barrage when they come to the sideline. Prince has done it, so has Brehaut, and Bell apparently followed suit. It's obvious to me that Rick simply does not have the respect of these particular players. It might be that he has the respect of absolutely nobody on the team, including his coaching staff. Little Tyler, the one true courageous Bruin, is very likely Rick's only friend in Westwood.

If you don't look off the DB and throw into coverage you should get chewed out!

Zumwalt and Westgate looked bad last night!

CRN's total meltdown again does not bode well for future recruiting. He is here for two more years but he has already peaked. The patterns of CO and WA are repeating themselves.

I've not seen any coverage on post game comments by Neuheisel. Did he make any?

Things were looking up for the Bruins' future until Max Globus committed to Boise St. Talk about a slap in Dad's face! They shouldn't have put all their eggs in that basket.

I remember WR#1 Brandon Breazell dropped a gimme in the endzone. As he was trotting back to the sideline, Coach Dorrell calmly gestured to him to come over and then started to review the fundamentals on catching a football, motioning both of his arms like he was curling a dumbbell to cradle in the football. Breazell responded well to it and started catching footballs, even pulling down some tough ones in subsequent games. Teaching QB vs WR may be like comparing apples to oranges but CRN needs to a take a deep breath, think about what he wants to say, think about it again and then coach Brehaut on the fundamentals. If not, he should leave it to Coach Chow, that’s his job duty. He should leave the QB yelling and screaming to us students, alumni and fans.

How much is that contract worth next two years? No wonder I am relentlessly optimistic!

2 more years on that contract baby.

If Brehaut can't go next game, who plays?

...Meanwhile, lost in the embarrassment and apparently crying in the locker room, we reportedly had a recruit decommit after the game.

Thanks for skipping the report card for the last game Jon.

Where's Bethel Thompson when you need him???

You can't say this on Bruins Nation or those crybabies will ban you: So buck up Nestor, and read this: This team deserves our pity but nothing more. Some of them are so totally inadequate that we are better off putting cheerleaders in. But it's not the players' fault. These coaches are The Worst. They have failed on every level of coaching except the salesmanship. Great class last year, I hope Hundley doesn't see this sinking ship and bolt, but sorry to say that if he is smart he won't come here. Not the way these coaches work.

Rick has lost this team and these fans. Rick has to go. Now. Also Chow and Bullough. And Moore. and probably all of them except Palcic. Can we fire Rick NOW and let Palcic coach the team the last 2 games? Then don't just search around your favorite ex player to coach this team. We need to get someone young and competitive who can get the best out of players and make them competitive.

I think they lift too many weights. They were all happy last summer that they set a bunch or bench pressing records or whatever. That makes you stupid and tight in the body and not really that much stronger on the field. Really, I don't absolve coach Linn either. These guys on the line collapse late in the game again and again. Just because your guys can pump iron doesn't make them players.

It's amazing just how unintelligent most of these posts are. That game was very manageable until Brehaut was hit. All of the points they scored came off of turnovers, most of which were just balls tossed into coverage by our 4th and 5th string qb's. No, injuries don't absolve a coaching staff of all blame, but when your entire offensive line is made up of 5th year seniors who played so terribly that this is their first season of any real playing time AND your SECOND string qb is concussed out of the game, what the fuck do you people expect? Those guys weren't even 3rd and 4th. Crissman is 3rd. They're 4th and 5th! And you morons are clamoring for the coaches job? The only coach that needs to be fired is Moore and possibly Chow.

I wondered the same as everyone else about pulling Bell for a 4th string walk on, and my only thought was that we were so far behind at that point that we had no choice but to throw, and perhaps Tunney is a better passer than Bell. Just a thought.
I'll always love the Bruins, but this team is hard to watch.
