Sloan won't return in '11
A source close to the program has indicated that UCLA middle linebacker Steve Sloan has decided to graduate in four years and will end his college football career.
His absence next season could be costly if UCLA runs into any injury issues in the LB corps. With Akeem Ayers leaving for the NFL and Patrick Larimore working back from a shoulder injury, the Bruins go into spring ball with Jordan Zumwalt, Sean Westgate and Glenn Love as the primary options, though linebacker coach Clark Lea is very optimistic about Eric Kendricks and Isaiah Bowens.
UPDATE: From what I've been told, this is a completely personal decision. Sloan just wants to move on to the next phase of his life. I'm told he was not forced out, nor was his decision a reflection of the coaching staff, he just felt like it was time to move on.

GL to Steve. Only hurts depth, but I think we have better young talent. The 3 Lb spots will be Westgate, Larimore, and Zumwalt.
Whats up with Koster and Golper? It seems those two have serious injury issues.
Any truth to the rumor that UCLA is getting a 5* O-lineman?
Wonderful!!!
And I'm sure it's just the beginning...and a 5 Star recruit? oh, okay.
Why? Do we need another scholly for Jerry Neu? What a crock. CRN loses all credibility by giving his son a scholly. He tells everybody that they have to earn a scholly every year and pushes those out who he thinks aren't cutting the mustard yet he gives his son, who is NOT UCLA level talent a scholly, even then he can afford to pay for his education. CRN should make his son walk on, like he did.
Isn't there a rule that you have to use a scholarship for staff children?
Jerry has the potential to be a useful back-up QB. I only hope Coach Rick doesn't go the Coach Dan/Cody Hawkins route. That would be disastrous IMHO.
You all just assume that Jerry Neu is getting a scholarship because Scout.com has listed that he has an offer. Scout makes mistakes all the time with offers. Btw, Rivals lists Jerry Neu without a UCLA offer.
lol at ruins
Talked to Steve about this a month ago. Steve has a great job lined up and is scheduled to graduate in the Spring. Congratulations and best of luck to him.
But, if we were 8 - 4 instead of 4 -8, maybe Sloan would be staying. Just say'n.
And Jerry Neu WON'T take up a schollie. Dad will pay the tuition. Don't worry guys!

Koster tore up his shoulder big time and had significant surgery on it. He most likely will not be back by Spring. Golper is reportedly recovering well from a disc problem ,but there have been some reports that he may be switched to a Fullback position if they start using pro-sets.
