UCLA gets Southeast 7-seed, heading to Tampa v. Michigan State

UCLA was just announced as a 7-seed in the NCAA Tournament, with a second-round matchup against 10-seed Michigan State. The winner will play the winner of 2 Florida and 15 UCSB.

I’ll have a detailed preview of UCLA’s bracket and tournament prospects tomorrow, with some reactions from coach Ben Howland and his players later today.

Nice draw…one and done, just like the Pac 10 tourney, ladies.

Can you do a write up of our record East of the Mississippi and hound the guys on our team about how horrendous it is so maybe they actually are awake on Friday.

Love this draw. Michigan State is no walk in the park, but they are a 14 loss team. If we can get by them then Florida is probably the easiest of the 2 seeds. In the sweet 16 we would see either St Johns or BYU, we could beat either again. Compared to Washington, who has UNC followed by Syracuse, or even Arizona, who will have Texas followed by Duke, I think we look pretty good here.

Now it all depends on who shows up.

I’d prefer them to be awake on game day – Thursday

I think we should easily get by Michigan St. and we’ve beat better teams than Florida (how they got a 2 seed out of the SEC remains a mystery to me).

UCLA got a very favorable draw. If we actually come to play, we could make a deep run. Greg Anthony thinks so–he predicts UCLA vs. Kansas St in the regional final. I hope Malcolm Lee’s knee is feeling better because he looked a bit tentative and a step slow against Oregon (although everyone else on UCLA did too).

    Go Bruins!!!

Toj all the bruins who always put down SC basketball, which is about 99% of you, all I have to say is one word:

    Ha!

When do tip times get announced???

  • are you kidding me?

Yea congrats to the Trojans for becoming the worst at-large team to ever make the NCAA tournament.

VERY VERY favorable seed and draw indeed. I don’t think Michigan St. should have even made the Tourney. But the committee loves Izzo. NO way Florida is a 2 seed. Committee also loves Donovan. These seeds look more like they are from 2005 than 2011.

The people who write on BruinsNation have lost their mind. I’d rather hang out with Gaddafi than the mods there. Freedom of speech and thought is not welcome there.

BN never has been free or fair, especially when Nestor was the tyrant-in-charge.

(Oddly enough, he happens to be Muslim, so Qaddafi is an apt comparison!)

What do you mean? Bruinsnation is the definition of Fair and Balance. You can say what you want on there…as long as you agree with them.

Glad some of you think that MSU will be a walk in the park, yes they did lose 14 games, but if you will notice they have played one of the toughest schedules in the country and they did beat Washington, one of Izzo’s strengths is the fact that since his teams play such a tough schedule they are generally better prepared then their opponents in the Big Dance, that being said for us to beat the Bruins the MSU team that played Purdue on Friday will have to show up.

I like this seeding. Michigan St is about as dysfunctional as we are. Florida is overrated. We’ve faced St. Johns and BYU before and won. Elite 8 is a strong possibility if the team can play consistently.

Guys- It seems as if you’ve all forgotten! At UCLA, all we care about is WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!! I could care less about seeded this, sent there, blah blah blah. It’s about winning whole thing! Making the second round, Elite 8, etc. So what? So we get to the Terrific 32, Sweet 16, only to lose? Where’s the pride in that? Win the whole thing, BRUINS!!!

“Compared to Washington, who has UNC followed by Syracuse, or even Arizona, who will have Texas followed by Duke, I think we look pretty good here.”

Yes. The only gripe you have is having to travel East.

The UW got not a nice draw. If they get past their opening game, they get to play UNC in Charlotte in round 2.

UCLA definately got a better draw than either us or UA. Good luck.

BruinNation defines dysfunctionality, cliquism, and downright paranoia. I was viciously attacked, literally called all kinds of names, accused of being a Trogan for suggesting early in the season that Brehaut was the better quarterback since he was healthy and had more upside. I had the audacity to remind how Brehaut was a highly regarded prep. Oh, I also stood up for a fellow Bruin who got ripped a new one for disagreeing with the “group think” over at that brown shirt site. F that site, we have Jon!

I’m sorry, but so many of you are bleeding way too much Bruin blue if you think MSU is a good draw. 14 losses is a nice shroud for a team coming off back-to-back final fours and started the year ranked No. 2 … and don’t think Izzo (“everyone’s 0-0 now”) doesn’t have his gangsters motivated.

This MSU team was a circus this year, and truly under-performed. But Big 10 was solid this year, and feasted on MSU’s internal troubles. Florida — yes, our Final 4 nemesis — would’ve actually been a nicer opener.

If we get this first one — I’m skeptical — it could be a nice run, indeed.
