Weekly Answers, Pt. 2

1) It’s hard not to feel like we live in era where the teams that win big in the BCS are all horribly corrupt and that the future of the NCAA will just be an endless cycle of programs dominating for 5-10 years, getting hit by the NCAA, and transitioning power to the next corrupt program that will dominate for the next 5-10 years. It also seems clear that you really can’t CONSISTENTLY win big without being corrupt. Agree or disagree and why? (Also, before you write me off as cynical I’d like to point out that most would have countered my argument with Jim Tressel’s Ohio St. program just a few months ago.) – NorthCampusBruin?
Agreed, and anyone who doesn’t has their head in sand.

2) Now that McNair’s case against the NCAA gives the NCAA subpoena power, will there be more scandals uncovered that will lead to more sanctions? – Cheat On!
The NCAA makes money off of name teams. The NCAA likes that money. The NCAA does not want that money to go away. The NCAA is a sham. Do you expect the NCAA to really go after teams, or do you expect reporters to uncover the dirt, so then the NCAA has to get involved. I guarantee if you look at any program, there’s dirt. And it won’t go away.

3) you ever make it out to any “Say No” summer games? i know some guys from the basketball team usually are playing on a team or two. might be a cool feature or a chance to get some video. – UCLA3
I had hoped to see some of the summer games last season but didn’t get a chance to do it, particularly with baseball lasting so long, so I hope to get out foa at least one this year.

4) Anyways, on to my question. Since Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer (and others before them) have become such big pitchers and/or better pitchers over their 3 years at UCLA, who is the guru who has been helping them to become as good as they are? Is is all Savage, a certain pitching coach, or all of the above? Thanks again! – Anonymous
They both have their own pitching coaches, but Savage is a fantastic pitching coach himself and the combination of all that – plus incredible work ethics and talent in both cases – has led to their success.

5) Based on what you know today, would the 2011 UCLA football team best the 2010 or 2009 teams? How about the 2005 team? Most importantly, who would have home field advantage? – captainqtp
Interesting question. They would definitely beat 2010, could beat 2009 depending on if Baca is healthy and they could contain Brian Price, and I didn’t see the 2005 team, but my assumption is they’d get killed by that squad.
