FSN to carry UCLA v. Houston and UCLA v. USC

FROM UCLA:

Fox Sports Net has listed two UCLA football games among its 2011 early selections.

FSN will carry the Sept. 3 opener at Houston, although the game time is still to be determined. The regular-season finale on Nov. 26 against USC at the Coliseum will kick at 7:00 pm and will be carried nationally by FSN.

FSN will also make games available to FX and Versus this season. Only six of FSN's 24 Pac-12 Conference home windows have been filled, so there will be opportunities for other UCLA games to be chosen during the season (12 days prior to the game).

UCLA also has two games on ESPN/ABC with other selections possible. ABC will televise the UCLA's home game versus Texas on Sept. 17 (12:30) while ESPN will carry the Thursday, Oct. 20 game at Arizona (6:00 pm PT/MT).

ESPN/ABC has five Pac-12 windows to fill while FSN/FX/Versus has 18. Those selections will be made 12 days prior to the game.

and this is just the beginning. more and more night games, and the SC game - I guess it's now becoming the norm rather than the exception - third year in a row... Glad I've got a comfortable couch and the best high def TV - thanks to the savings made from not renewing my season tickets.

If the u$c game is on Prime Ticket again, that will be the second year in a row that most cable users in San Diego (big recruiting area, BTW) will not get the game. Wake up, Pac 10/12!

Yeah, I've been thinking how good a HDTV I could get by not renewing the tickets, but kids love going to the Rose Bowl. Really dislike the game being on so late. Atmosphere is so much different (and negative IMHO) when it is at night.

...yipee....

Living in San Diego, guess that means I've got to get DirecTV or something other than Time Warner since I had to leave my house to watch every single Fox-televised game last year (football and basketball).

Rich - Just to get a little more technical--- Time Warner San Diego has a digital sports package that consists of the 400 series of channels. This includes three Fox College Sports channels. Up through the 09/10 school year, they would show all the UCLA games I couldn't get on Prime Ticket. All of a sudden for the 10/11 school year, these channels stopped showing Pac 10 football/basketball for the most part and started showing Division III football, women's volleyball, coaches shows, reality shows, etc.

Time Warner San Diego and Cox San Diego won't show Prime Ticket because they feel Fox wants too much money to show the Clippers and the Ducks, plus the Dodgers get blacked out down here due to the Padres exclusivity.

Possible good news: Fox and the Padres are close to a deal for 2012. If and when this happens, more UCLA games would be available on Time Warner San Diego, because the Padres would either be put on Prime Ticket or a new Fox San Diego channel.

Sorry, possibly TMI.

Tim,

Thanks for the info. The short answer should be to just go to DirecTV, right, and avoid all the politics and hassle? I think I've seen where they advertise all the Fox Sports channels, including Prime Ticket, on their basic tier.

Rich,

I had considered Dish or Direct TV last year, but there was a lengthy blackout of some of the Fox channels last year when the satellite company (can't remember which one) and Fox couldn't agree on price. At the time, I was worried that I would switch from cable to satellite only to find out that I wouldn't be getting Fox for the next two years. You would think that with today's technology, we could see any game we wanted to see, but then ratings and money and ego get in the way.
