Vanderbilt's Graham reportedly transferring to UCLA

| | Comments (24) |

Jeff Lockridge of the Nashville Tennessean (Vanderbilt beat writer) wrote on Twitter earlier today that defensive back Jamie Graham is going to transfer to UCLA for grad school and to play for the Bruins.

Graham is a talented athlete but didn't get much playing time for Vanderbilt last season, and he could provide an immediate boost to the return game. He has one season of eligibility remaining, and he'll help soften the blow from the loss of Courtney Viney, which I thought was a big one. Between Aaron Hester, Sheldon Price, Andrew Abbott, Anthony Jefferson and now Graham, UCLA has some decent depth at the position, but it remains a recruiting priority for next year.

I'm sure he's playing this season since he has already graduated.

Yes, only UCLA would take a player that hardly played. Classic Bruins, keep. 500 going

If he didn't get much playing time at Vandy how is he going to "see the field" at UCLA?

So video mostly shows vintage games not featuring him, and states off field stuff....wow.
This is what we need, more practice players.

Why is this even mentioned on here? No walk-ons to report?

Cheers to small victories for proving one of worst teams in conference.

He didn't get much playing time at Vandy because he was injured for most of the season and had season ending knee surgery in November. Should fit right in.

Accept the kid and move on. What makes you trolls experts? all the negativity get's a bit too much and it becomes annoying reading everyone complain. I understand everyone is free to post as they like but it makes you sound like crybabies. The progaram is not where it should be, we know that, but being negative towards a kid joining the program is unacceptable.

This is called a blog, so if u want official media postings about the team, go to school website.

So when are we to discuss? After season when he is gone?

Better reading about Malone's arrival than dozens of new jr. high "anon" comments every month. Given his life path, Malone might actually help lead in the UCLA lockeroom, a position that can be as important as any on the field when heavy turnover has occured.
Anon. posters should go to the U$C site, where the ship really is sinking.

You are wrong. He did not play that much. Last season he played 4 total games. The year before that he was transitioning from offense to defense and the year before that he was used only on offense. Not the kind of track record you want for a starting Pac-12 corner.

Sounds like a good pick up especially for depth concerns...WELCOME!

Anon@504, in view of the fact you don't run the program, let me be the first to say 'Whew!'

For the record, Graham was slated to start last year for what was a pretty good Vanderbilt secondary (a competitive unit in the SEC). Injuries spoiled his season. The year before, he played both WR and DB and he was pretty worn out by the end of the 2009 season. He ended that year with a terrific game against Tennessee (interception, couple pbu's, ten tackles) And Vandy coaches decided to keep him on defense for good. He also played a little basketball a couple years ago. A defensive-minded guard. But he gave that up. I'm not sure he's good enough to be an impact player. But he held his own (when healthy) playing in the SEC. And, by all accounts, he's a quality guy. I don't think you can have too many of those. You might want to cut the kid some slack until you've seen what he can offer. Just a thought.

Whats with all these negative comments? Best case scenario is he provides depth and plays some nickel and worst case is he is a good practice player. Even if he isnt good at all he is only here for a year and will not count against the 2012 recruiting class. There is absolutely no downside to this. All these people trashing this transfer need to get a clue.
