I heard Barry Thompkins was injured in the Civil War. Is that true?

Hey Jon…Love your coverage of Fall training camp! Keep it up! From what you have seen so far from Fall camp, who would your starters be if the season started today? And who are you anticipating to have big, breakout seasons this year? Thanks!

If Datone Jones stays healthy the whole season, what’s your prediction for the number of sacks he’ll get?

Who are our remaining football targets? Do we have a chance at landing Devin Fuller, and at what position are we recruiting him? How is Owa doing in the practices? Also, if you were the coach who would you start at wide reciever? Thanks

  • Daniel

Im sure this has been asked a few times but Im too lazy to look through all the archives to find my answer. So…
Are there any long term plans to possibly get an on campus stadium at UCLA? I doubt there are so if not, do you think the new PAC-12 TV deal will help with trying to fund an on campus stadium? Do you think UCLA will continue to play at the Rose Bowl, say, 20 years from now? I hope not. I love the Rose Bowl but nothing beats an on-campus stadium. Thanks!

Anything on the walkon Dlinemen like Uche Amajoyi or Tre Hale? How far are they from contributing?

  • UCLA Bruin11

Could De’End Parker possibly spell Zeek as backup if Jerime Anderson is dismissed/expelled? After all, Parker led CCSF to a state JC title as PG. Would Howland consider him as a possibility despite saying Parker was recruited as a wing? How are Parker’s ballhandling skills, ability to create & his shooting?

I don’t care who wins the QB battle, but John, does it look to you like a QB will be able to run a pass play without staring down the primary receiver this season?

Do you think Anthony Barr would thrive more as a linebacker than at the f-back position? What position did we recruit him at?

  • Sunset Bruin

    Jon,

Thanks for your great coverage of fall camp. Do you have any idea where Morrell Pressley will land? How much did his off-the-field issues impact his playing time at UCLA?

  • Pistalion

Can you ask the D lineman if David Carter gave them the advice on hand placement that was so valuable to help him in the last NFL draft? If they didn’t get advice from David Carter, what was the name of the coach that taught him that technique? Supposedly he is the #2 DT in Cardinals training camp right now – Bruingold poster is the source of that “info”.

  • RainMan

Why don’t you and Wolf trade places one day soon and give us a little perspective by comparison with what you see every day?

I had some concerns regarding depth at F-back once Pressley’s transfer was announced. Any idea on what the projected depth looks like at that position? With Franklin possibly not returning next year it looks like James and Jones will be next year’s one-two punch which leads me believe that James will not stay at F-back for long.

  • JohnnyBruin

Regarding the PR position, will it be Taylor Embree, Josh Smith, or Jamie Graham?

  • UCLA3

Tresey/Johnson will call plays from the booth up top or from the field?

  • hicalliber

If Brehaut wins the starting job do you see Mike Johnson calling less running plays for him than if Prince wins the job? As we’ve seen, Prince is the more effective runner but Chow didn’t really alter the gameplan very much when Brehaut took over (in my opinion).

Also, do you see Owa being utilized as more of a third down pass rusher or will he be used in a different way?

    Thanks!

  • BruinGeee

How do you see the running backs splitting carries this year?

What is the best BBQ spot in LA

  • bruincheerleader

Jon, I trust your viewpoint completly, since we both like FANKLIN @ BASH…:)…it’s waaaay early i know, but from what u have seen so far is there hope for a better outcome for the football team than 5-7 or even 6-6?…thank you…

  • Ben G

I also think you should trade spots with Wolf for a day and see what the differences in camps are, compare notes. It would be a cool feature you guys could do just once, and its kinda original too.

  • Ben G

Can you just confirm now that Shabazz Muhammad is signing an LOI to UCLA?

  • wise fool

Is there a dramatic difference from the way the Pistol is run this year compared to last? Or even compared to the Spring? Do you think the game film last year will give Houston or Texas enough info about the way UCLA operates out of the Pistol? Or will Mastro’s influence totally surprise our first few opponents?

  • TruBruin

Why is it that we aren’t hearing anything along the recruiting trail about Sua Filo? He would be a part of the current recruiting class being recruited now. I know its a hefty crop of lineman on the west coast but this dude is ready to make an impact immediately. Why isnt his name coming up at all?

  • bibs

    Jon,
Good fall coverage.Do you feel that the tempo of practice has been significantly faster? I look for 8 or 9 wins, agree?

  • GeeDee

Can Jonathan Franklin top the 2,000 yd mark this year.

  • ucla-of-the-rockies

1). Expected full-contact return of Hundley?
2). Has there been a recent Josh Smith sighting? How can a man of this girth fly under the radar ALL summer, unless he’s become either a Jukebox Hero (please, no!) or been holed up at some Jenny Craig Clinic? (yes!)
    3). Jerime verdict expected when?

  • Anonymous

Do you see a marked difference with Coach Tresey’s defense compared to last year’s? Should we expect improvement based simply on the new schemes/coaching/etc.?

    Jon,

In my hypothetical bizarro world, Andrew Luck is the UCLA quarteback for this season. How many games do we win? 13? 14?

  • Anonymous

Are you good friends with other UCLA beat writers or do you see them as competition and keep your distance?

  • Spencer

It looks like the new coaches (esp. the coordinators) are exactly what UCLA needed. What’s your impression of the new coaches thus far?

  • Spencer

It seems like UCLA has a wide range of possibilities for this season — they could perform very well or they could continue to perform poorly (only winning 4 or 5 games). Do you agree with this? Is this season wide open as far as what this team could be?

  • Semi-Pro

    Hey Jon,

Most sports writers who have written about UCLA this year have said Richard Brehaut has clearly outplayed Kevin Prince in practice and scrimmages thus far, do you agree?

If RB really has outplayed KP, why hasn’t Neuheisel seen it and named him starter?
