Post-practice update

*Joe Fauria made a nice, one-handed catch in the back of the end zone for a touchdown at the end of a two-minute drill on a pass from Kevin Prince.
*Andrew Abbott was hobbling around after his coverage on a deep route and came out, but then went back in a couple of plays later.
*Kevin Prince and Richard Brehaut would rather Rick Neuheisel name a starting quarterback, but both said they’ll do whatever is best for the team, even if that means UCLA might play both quarterbacks.
*Neuheisel is most looking forward to the tomorrow’s closed scrimmage at the Rose Bowl because of the heat, which he said will serve the Bruins well for their season opener at Houston. It was plenty hot in Westwood Thursday morning, too.

More to come later this afternoon.

Initial weather is 95 at kick off with scattered thunder storms.

I think CRN doesn’t want to name a QB to make it difficult for Hou to prepare. But really our offense is the same. Is Hou preparation really that different? Prince better at running, Brehaut better at passing, but does the game plan change that much if 1 guy or the other is the QB?

Hey Neu, name an f-ing starting quarterback already!

What do you need? Paper, rock, scissors? Tarot card or palm reading? McCourt’s psychic?

Andrew Abbott = best pure cover corner on the team.

  • MichaelRyerson

    Thank you, Andrew.

  • Lawyer Bunghole

As we used to say in the Marines, Time to shit or get off the pot. Name the Starting QB.

    On Another Note: Hey Jon,
I can’t provide a link but the Bruin zone tells us that Shabazz Mo and Kyle Anderson (6’8″ point guard) are both playing in the UCLA gym games this week with Russell Westbrook, Aaron Afflalo, Earl Watson, etc. For some reason, current bruin players aren’t playing. There may be restrictions. (Best player on the court is Westbrook, no der).

The recruits are in town for a high school all-star showcase: The Boost Mobile games.

    Have you heard anything?

May be we should make Harkey and Fauria play with just one arm. It seems that the only TD catches they are making are the one-handed ones.

  • Brock

I think jon is out of town btw.

  • BruinAficionado

Joe Fauria is one big dude. It’s the second straight day we’ve had a report of him making a nice one-handed catch. If our QBs can’t put the ball within reach of his two hands, there are serious accuracy issues.

    Safe Travels J.

Enjoy your weekend Jon, you’ve definitely earned it with your excellent coverage the past few weeks.

  • MichaelRyerson

Another wedding? Another wedding? What, are you a wedding singer? A caterer? You can’t possibly know that many single people. C’mon, you don’t really know these people, do you?

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/ucla Jon Gold

First of all, many people like me, just not jewish UCLA fans.
Second of all, this one is my brother, so…yeah, I’m going.

  • MichaelRyerson

I think you’re likable, Jon and I’m a goy. I also think you should go into business as a wedding planner. Best to your brother and his bride. Hurry back (not that Jill isn’t doing a wonderful job).

MRyer: Please tell me Benny is staying way away from Coral Gables.

  • MichaelRyerson

Benny is staying way away from Coral Gables. How’s that? Benny’s working in Baton Rouge and, AND he’s coming over to Houston (where I am presently forced to live. gainful employment, ya know?) for the game next week. Should be good times. Cougars fans are going to get an earful.

  • ucla-of-the-rockies

    Give ‘em hell, MRyer …
And hopefully Bruins deliver nicely to open the season.
