Shaq Goodwin at UCLA, drops by football practice

| | Comments (5) |

UCLA two-sport target Shaq Goodwin dropped by UCLA football practice for a cameo appearance today, albeit briefly.

Goodwin is being targeted by the Bruins primarily in basketball, but he's made his intentions to play both football and hoops abundantly clear, and the UCLA football staff is getting involved in his recruitment as well.

Has Howland spoke to this plan? Seems like he would have a real problem with a player missing fall practice and non conference games.

If he's on a basketball scholarship then he would finish out the basketball season before joining the football team.

relax. shaq goodwin is awesome and I would take him in any way possible. he's supposed to be pretty darn good at football, too. and if he does come to play both sports, he would take up a football scholarship, not basketball, so howland would not be using a ride on him. obviously howland knows the situation. it's not like we just started recruiting the guy.

The two-sport lure is really not a big deal.
Having him "stop by" IS the whole deal, though.
You do whatever you can to get a kid in like this (it's a business, everyone giving him the same "yes, you can play both!") and usually they make up their own mind as to which sport works best for them.
Major D-I sports simply doesn't allow the time for even the most amazing of athletes to succeed in both.

Unless you are Richard Brehaut, of course.
