Weekly Answers, Pt. 3

Check out the latest batch of weekly answers…

1) Mike Leach – has he got any influential alumni/administration friends in Westwood? – Anonymous
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it now, I’ll say it again: I’d be shocked.

2) Is it time for Nueheisel to throw all his chips to the center of the table and play Hundley to try and save his job??? It’s truly the only spark this team has left. – Ley
In Week 4, no. In Week 8? Who knows. Hundley will be a great player, but he’s not ready yet. If he hadn’t have missed so much of camp, maybe. But he’s not quite there.

3) Do you think were really giving KP a fair chance?I mean he hasnt played a full football game in a long time and as an athlete, i know that you may be practicing a lot but whats going to really get you better are the games. I feel when Kevin is in his best shape hes better then Brehaut. What do you think? and why on earth do we not have Locke as the permanent kicker???Smith could have never done what Locke did at the Texas game. – Bruin4life
I think he has had plenty of chances. If UCLA had a dominant defense and a dominant offensive line, I might stick with Prince. He’s an excellent game-manager, and he understands the inner-workings of an offense. But if you need points, you go with the quarterback who can throw downfield and score in a hurry. Moreso, in my opinion, you go with the one who wants to do that, and isn’t satisfied checking down. Regarding Locke: It looks like they could be headed that way.

4) Any chance that Barr and Malcolm Jones get converted to the defensive side since they don’t seem to have a big impact on the offensive side. – Anonymous
I don’t think either of them has the mindset to be a defensive player. They’re also both sophomores. Give it some time. But also, give them the ball more than they’ve gotten it.

5) Hey Jon — have you found that your experience (and exposure to quality programs) as a sports journalist have made you a more discerning and/or critical fan of the teams you support (i.e., Broncos, etc.)? I would guess that because you see how different programs practice and run their operations, your expectations for your own teams might change… – Anonymous
Well, I wouldn’t really call myself too much of a fan of any sports team or athlete any more. I know how the hot dogs are made. It isn’t pretty. I can’t even watch the Broncos anymore because I am so bitter about the front office decisions going back a decade. It’s actually kind of sad, really. I used to be the single biggest sports fan I know, in terms of passion and also size. Now it’s only one of the two.
