to tackle or not to tackle?
Neuheisel hasn't decided, but I'm guessing live tackling isn't going to be included in practice gameplans this week. He hasn't done it in his coaching career during the season. And with the number of injuries UCLA has suffered in the past on that field, it doesn't seem prudent.
But sure, the Bruins need to figure out how to tackle better and do so quickly.
``We'll wait and see if it's in drill work or actual tackling,'' Neuheisel said. ``The problem with live tackling is you put your team at risk. While we understand the need to do it in actual fashion, there's lots of bodies around and it may not be the right recipe. We'll continue to talk about that...''
And more...
``Live (tackling) is something you do in training camp and spring ball. You don't often go live in the course of the season. I know some teams do it and live to tell about it, but it's not something I've done in my career.''

Ummm...isn't that why you have scout team players??? You know, warm bodies that the starters can tackle and beat up on without having to worry about getting hurt because they're 5th or 6th on the depth chart anyway.
Well, if you're not gonna tackle in the game why bother doing it in practice?? Seriously, this whole concept of "prudent" decision making is a disaster. What is it that RN has to be prudent about, losing by 40 or 50 points instead of 29? Consistently over-promising and under-delivering is really the ideal pathway to pissing people off. In my opinion, "prudent" is code for don't blame me for erring on the side of caution. Well, Ricky, I do blame you for taking the coward's way out. Here's my plan for saving your AZZ:
1) scrap all of your "packages/schemes" and simplify it to move fast and hit hard.
2) trust the kids YOU recruited to move faster and hit harder than the other side.
3) you are "coaching-packaging-schemeing" them into paralysis, please stop what you are doing.
4) call Buddy Ryan and ask him what he thinks about your non-contact policy.
What career is that? The one you run from the 90's still? I have to say RN has not progressed his thought process from the 90's. He is stuck in the stone age and something needs to be said to him. This is his fourth year...NO MORE EXCUSES.
What is the definition of insanity?
Doing the same thing over and over and expect different results.
Don't tackle in practice and you'll get same results.
Says CRN:
"Live tackling is something you do in training camp and Spring ball ..."
No shit.
I say:
"Live tackling is something you then actually execute in games or you lose those games, and then your job."
you guys are all tackling dummies. After all, I'm the weazel.
