RUNNING BACKS
Not a bad effort from UCLA's only consistent unit.
C+

WIDE RECEIVERS
Nelson Rosario still hasn't reached his massive potential.

DEFENSIVE BACKS
At some point you have to think they'll let two big defensive backs play physically.
D

SPECIAL TEAMS
Jeff Locke's big leg make you question decision to go with Kip Smith in Week 1.
B+

COACHING
The message, if there is one, is being lost and might not be found.

Pls...neither Prince nor Brehaut is Andrew Luck. Texas doesn't care who is going to play at QB. Heck no team on UCLA's schedule cares. None of them is going to design a defensive game plane to specifically to stop either QB. If anything most teams will stack the box and make the QB beat them. Yes, Brehaut hasn't exactly tore it up but he hasn't done anything to lose the starting job. He should start. If Brehaut falters then put Prince in. Don't tell me about fair competition. Brehaut wasn't given a fair chance to win the job in fall camp. Prince was given every chance to win the starting job but couldn't. Everybody knows that if Prince is healthy then he's going to start the Texas game. Neuheisel is just stringing Brehaut along. If Neuheisel doesn't think that Brehaut can run the Pistol then be up front with him so he can considder is options. You have Hundley now. Don't string Brehaut along. If he doesn't fit your system then let him know.

Jon,

Do you know who this Nestor is? I believe he lives in D.C. or near there.

Can you let all of us know if and when he comes to the Rosebowl to watch a game.

I think it'll look a little like that scene in Airplane!, if you know what I mean.

GO BRUINS!!!!!!

Texas has major qb woes itself. Who's going to play qb for them this week? None of their 3 guys looked great and their No. 1 (Gilbert) looked terrible.

Jon, were you as shocked as all of us fans were with that SJSU game?

Case McCoy looks like a lot better of an option for the Longhorns...I think he gets the nod next week. Oh, and obviously Jon was surprised by the SJSU game since he said his opinion of our defense was only "dampened" after last week's poor defensive effort against Houston. He had us going 6-6 with a bowl win....

QB got a B- ?? I think you let him off easy this week Jon.

And where are all the Brehaut backers since Saturday night? I am not anti-Brehaut, I hope he has a great season, but I thought he was marginal at best (he would get a C- from me).

I still also have high hopes for Kevin P though too. Most of his injuries arent of his own doing (e.g constant hamstrings, etc). I cant fault the guy for broken bones, concussions, etc. That's just part of the game. He does seem snake-bit though. I feel for the guy because I know he works damn hard to be ready and it has to be super frustrating.

Sure am disappointed with the defense so far...

Brehaut reads a defense like a blind man reads sheet music. Really hope Prince can play on Saturday.

I'm not sure why there is so much debate around the offense-its not our problem. Prince or Brehaut- either is serviceable. We're averaging 32 points a game- if our defense plays at a mediocre level we win 7-8 games like that. Number 22 offense in D-1-- that works just fine.

Our D is terrible. We cannot tackle (I believe this problem started in the Miami game in 1998) or stop the run. Is there a reason why our db's play 10 yds off the wideouts? The opposing teams can just throw under or run bubble screens all day long, especially given our tackling woes. I'd much rather force the opposing QB's to beat us deep- Our safeties are decent enough to handle that... I think.

I beleive our Defense will look great this week (finally) as this offense of Texas is the only true straight up attack (no pistol) we have faced this year. This may be the week that CRN should start Hundley if he wants to save his job and turn this program around (the team needs a HUGE spark). If Hundley leads them to a win it is a huge confidence boost for him and the program going FWD and if they dont CRN will squander a great opportunity and return to mediocrity the rest of the year, and possibly lose his job! Prince and Brehaut are not the answer!

i grade them an F for the ugliest uniforms in the PAC-12...at least oregon changes their ugly uniforms each week...we dont!

Let's just face it. This Bruin team is satisfied with the win because they know how good they really are. Not so good. On the field against SJSU it was a battle for them. They realized it. Any win will be welcomed, no matter who the competition is. UCLA is just not that good. Hasn't been and won't be. Rick won't make excuses since the Bruins are who they are, just plain average.

Coach Neu is sandbagging. Even though everyone knew how overmatched the SJSU front four would be against our O-Line, we refused to just run straight at them until late in the game, at which point we marched to late scores.

Instead, we were treated to lots of fancy offensive plays from the Pistol set with marginal results for much of the game. While I recognize we're probably better off practicing this sort of stuff (which we'll be required to execute well if we hope to have any chance against the better teams down the line), we sure didn't look sharp doing it.

Of course, if we had just run the whole first half, we would have been up 28-7 at halftime, and then gotten accused of running up the score when we broke out our bag of passing tricks. Coaches just can't win...
