UCLA v. Texas Report Card

| | Comments (16) |

RESULT: Texas 49, UCLA 20
RECORD: 1-2
WEEK 3 GPA: F

QUARTERBACK
Three interceptions in a quarter? What's worse than an F?
F-

RUNNING BACKS
Not a bad effort from UCLA's only consistent unit.
C+

WIDE RECEIVERS
Nelson Rosario still hasn't reached his massive potential.
D

OFFENSIVE LINE
Admirable effort despite loss of Sean Sheller.
C+

DEFENSIVE LINE
Neutralized again, Datone Jones has just one tackle.
F+

LINEBACKERS
Angles of pursuit have been trivial at best.
C

DEFENSIVE BACKS
At some point you have to think they'll let two big defensive backs play physically.
D

SPECIAL TEAMS
Jeff Locke's big leg make you question decision to go with Kip Smith in Week 1.
B+

COACHING
The message, if there is one, is being lost and might not be found.

I am in 'total agreement' with your grades.

Jon,

Good job on calling out Neuheisel on the teams "sloppiness!"

"F-" for Coaching is too lenient. They should have their coaching credentials confiscated and escorted out of the stadium. Brehaut had 19 pass attempts for the whole game. He should've had at least 40 pass attempts. Why are they still trying to establish the running game when they are down by double digits for the whole game. The time to establish the run gameis the Oregon State game. If Rosario keeps dropping the ball then sit him down and put in Smith, Carrol, Lucien. Also, Coleman should be in when it's 3rd or 4th an 1. Really, Harkey lined up as the slot receiver. You're fooling anyone with that formation. They are getting killed by the short passes, all the way back to the Houston game, and they still haven't figure out how to stop that. Here's a suggestion, when you have big physical corners don't play them 10-15 yards off the receivers, especially when it's third and short. Try to man up and bump the receivers at the LOS, try to throw off their timing a little. And don't get me started on the stupid mistakes and penalties. This is the third game already. Why are they still making the bonehead penalties. Gotte stop or I'm going to pop a vein.

What are these F and D grades? Common Jon. Just a few turnovers and your flunking me back to junior college?

Jon,

Locke, our All American punter, hitting field goals of 51 and 49 yards ... damn!!! If that doesn't deserve an A+ nothing does!!!

As for that mouthpiece who has been getting fat checks promising and not delivering victories parading as a coach, how about FFF.

BruinPain said:

BTW,

QB grades should be split up.

Richard Brehaut: B-

Kevin Prince: D.O.A.

If Prince starts the Oregon State game then I will definitely not renew my season tickets and will stop all future donation to UCLA

Wow, an "F" -- never thought I'd see it. Your grading gets an "F" too, for "fair."

A B- for a quarterback who is three for thirteen on third down and
eight for nineteen overall?

A quarterback who threw no touchdowns
and his receivers under the bus in public?

A quarterback who was statistically the worst quarterback in the the Pac-10 last season.
A quarterback who spent the off season playing baseball.

A B-?

Jon, When do we get a hard line interview with Tressy to find out what happened to the promise of being more aggressive defensively than we've been in the past. We are more passive now than ever. It looks to me Tressy has no trust in in his personnel to get up on the line and play smash mouth football. The linebackers are 7 yards back with no movement, and our db's are 10 yards back, like there scared of being burned. Does Tressy truly believe our guys are just not good enough to play defense like LSU and FSU. If so he should be the first out the door. Like today.

I would hate to burn Hundley's redshirt year, but it might be time...

Pretty accurate report card this week although kicker maybe should have been given an "A"

BruinPain said:

@anonymous,

B- maybe should been C+ but his receivers dropped i don't know how many passes and the coaches put his in those third and longs and poor play calling. he made some bad throws and bad reads but at least he knew what team to throw to and you could see an immediate change in rhythm when he replaced crn's fwb.

The most athletic QB is sitting the bench (and I'm not talking about Mr. Crissman) and now it is quite obvious the Bruins are headed for another 4-8 season.

Neuheisel is too ego-driven to see the handwriting on the wall and he will be tossed under the bus after year's end.

The Prince of Belair is a proven squat, Mr. Bree is a journeyman (at best)...so why not go all in an give Mr. Hundley the bal;l and let him learn the game so that UCLA will be a better team for the enxt 3 years.

But that won't happen 'cause at his core, Rick is selfish, and will try to 'win' with current coaching talent.

As Dans Carvey said as George Buch (Sr) "Ain't gonna happen!"
