Weekly Answers, Pt. 3

Check out the latest batch of weekly answers…

1) Is the Pistol worth it? Seems like our QBs are dropping like flies. – Anonymous
Tough question. It really does mask some of the deficiencies on the offensive line, but at what cost? I’d probably say no given the personnel, but if Hundley ends up being what they think he can be, I reserve the right to change my opinion.

2) I thought Josh Smith was supposed to be a burner, or at least someone who would be dynamic in the kick return game? He does not appear to have elite speed or elusiveness. Were we fooled? – Anonymous
Given Smith’s track record at Colorado was all we had to go by, I think we all expected more. That’s fair to say. But you never know how a kid is going to do in a new environment, and UCLA’s return blocking hasn’t been especially good.

3) Before the season, IIRC you said UCLA had a chance to win 8 reg season games provided there were no major injuries, or similar words to that effect. Now that a QB is down and Sheller is down with fractured limbs, what is your revised prediction for a ceiling? – Anonymous
Outside shot at seven, realistic shot at six.

4) Bullrushing Kai Maiva was the straw that broke my back! UCLA players on the receiving end of so many vicious hits this year, but why do they not incense our players and raise their level of play? I’m thinking back to the hits Andrew Abbott and Jeff Locke received, and wondering why didn’t they ignite a fire in our players? Thoughts? – cerritosbruin
I think there are some hard players to ignite a fire under.

5) Can you get any more information on that mysterious “Leaping” penalty? I didn’t see anybody climbing up anybody else’s back, and it really could have cost us the game! – TK Bruin
Fauria jumped and a UCLA player was being pushed back, so Fauria fell on him ever so slightly and got the penalty.
