Kendricks wins brother battle

| | Comments (4) |

Brothers Eric and Mychal Kendricks made their presence known on Saturday.

Eric Kendricks, a backup outside linebacker for UCLA, had five tackles while older brother Mychal picked up four tackles for the Bears.

The elder Kendricks has the season edge with 59 tackles and 6.5 tackles-for-loss, while Eric has played well in a backup role for the Bruins, registering 43 tackles and three tackles-for-loss, including a crucial takedown of Cal tight end Anthony Miller for a 5-yard loss in the third quarter in the UCLA red-zone.

After an Aramide Olaniyan stopped Bears quarterback Zach Maynard on the next play, Cal kicker Giorgio Tavecchio missed a 42-yard field goal, preserving a 17-14 UCLA lead.

When Aramide Olaniyan sliced in to stop Bears quarterback Zach Maynard (just before the missed field goal by the Bears), he was playing left end on a three man rush. AO is a linebacker. AO playing left end now?

I said it last week, that so many times when a team gets beat badly one week, it comes back to look like a different group the next. And so it was yesterday at the Rose Bowl.

I only want to say, shame, shame, shame on football fans for coming down so brutally on THEIR team!

There is nothing quite so non-spiritual as losing sports' fans.

BeReal: I doubt there's a true Bruin football fan, anywhere, that wasn't happy about the victory over our Northern UC big sisters.
I, for one, was extremely proud of how former reserves stepped up like Aramide Olaniyan, Jerry Rice, Jr., Josh Smith and so on. Even Jeff Locke showed a lot of toughness hanging in there. Zumwalt, Love & Kendricks are blossoming into big-time defenders. Tevin McDonald? He simply stepped up to the big stage and led us to victory from centerfield, of all places.
But let's also BE REAL here.
Cal hasn't beaten a D-I opponent with a winning record;
Since Aaron Rogers, they've had more drama at QB than even we have;
We were at home, and SHOULD HAVE won the game;
Did you flip the channel afterward and see the sold-out crowd at USC? Did you see the STRAIGHT-UP EMBARASSING empty seats they couldn't even hide at the Rose Bowl with advertisements for the TV audience?
Arizona was hammered by Washington tonite, and too few REAL BRUIN FANS will admit that if we played UW and Oregon instead of their in-state sissy schools, we would have NO CHANCE at a bowl, period.
This is a cupcake schedule at best, and we are 4-4.
CRN's game management before halftime continued to show the glaring troubles we suffer with from on top that will keep us from ever getting over the hump unless change is ushered in.
The best CRN can do is reward the play of the aforementioned players once suspensions are lifted, continue to try (TRY!) and make his alma-mater proud and do the obvious REAL MAN'S DECISION ... resign before the USC game.
BE REAL: your enthusiasm is appreciated, along with others on this site. But let's not be blind here, please.
I had an old uncle that farmed for a living who said it best when I BE REAL truly look at this team from top to bottom, focusing squarely at the heap that is this the mirage of a coaching staff and our administration as compared to those in BIG-TIME division I football ...
