UCLA v. Utah Report Card

| | Comments (7) |

RESULT: Utah 31, UCLA 6
RECORD: 5-5
WEEK 10 GPA: F

QUARTERBACKS
D-
Kevin Prince struggled mightily with arm, legs as Utes limited his run options.

RUNNING BACKS
C
Penalties sapped all momentum, but Franklin, Coleman didn't do much to wrestle it back.

WIDE RECEIVERS
C
Intensity seemed to be lacking in the blocking, route-running department.

OFFENSIVE LINE
F
Performance of senior veterans in crucial game was absolutely dreadful. Seven penalties?

DEFENSIVE LINE
D
Reverted back to bad habits and poor technique; entire unit needs to keep pad levels down

LINEBACKERS
D
Tackling poorly is not just about missing tackles, but letting the guy always squeeze out the extra yard.

DEFENSIVE BACKS
B
Can't fault defensive backs when front seven opens like a Harry Potter movie.

SPECIAL TEAMS
C
Tyler Gonzalez made two field goals, but Bruins lost battle of field position.

COACHING
D
D for discipline, or once again, lack thereof. Overall F for major dud in critical game.

To stay with the Veteran's Day theme, we should now "remember" Utah Beach (F) right along with the USS Arizona (F).

Jon, it would appear that math wasn't your strong point. You give a GPA of F. Yet the grades that you show for each position AVERAGE to 1.6 which is a C-/D+.

Fact checking isn't your strongpoint, eh?

Read the coaching line.

Common Jon. Don't be so negative. An F? We were better than that! Two more wins and we are on our way to a bowl.

Jon is right. UCLA laid an egg at Utah. It would be one thing if they played well and lost but they completely failed instead. Penalties, poor tackling, and the list goes on. These are the same problems since week 1. Scheming and game plan aside, who do you blame that on? The players or the coaches? I am inclined to go with the latter.

Sad game.

I blame the players.

They all knew they only had to play like the previous two games - with determination, guts, energy, intensity, teamwork, etc.

They came into the game anxious, tentative, slow, playing matador defense, unwilling to win the game.

Come on: 6 points will not win the game. 10+ unforced penalties gave the game up early.

The players did not come to play the game.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Jon, you're being much too harsh on the team, the coaches, and the program in general. For a start, there was SNOW on the ground! Also, the players only brought their astro turf shoes. And as I recall, it was also getting a bit dark. And don't forget the wind and home field advantage. PLUS, the Utes kept moving around and yelling on defense. They were very poor sports! And, the offensive coordinator for the home team was very, very good. And don't even bring up the obvious distraction of all those cool (or hot) Ute babes wagging their booties and screaming, "UCLA sucks! See you after the game!" How can you expect a team from SoCal to play under those circumstances?!
