Talk about cruel:

If UCLA goes 1-1 in its next two games but still somehow advances to the Pac-12 championship game, then loses that game, at 6-7, they'd be ineligible for a bowl game.

Ouch.

Update: Yup, confirmed: "According to conference office, a team that owns 6-7 record after the championship game is not bowl eligible."

That is why we will go 2-0.

So it's basically win out, or don't play in a Bowl?

Someone should ask Neu this week: "What would be more important to you, berth in the Conference title game to get slaughtered on national television by Oregon, or a berth in a bottom tier bowl game?

I think the games against Texas, Arizona, and Utah should already have made UCLA ineligible.

So then it is official. Goodbye Rick and on to finding a new coach.

Now if Dan Guerrero goes back on his word and not firing RN for not getting to a bowl game this year there will be anarchy in Westwood.

Not to fear Bruin faithful. We win out. Then head to a bowl game. Then contract extension. AD Guerrero and I have already discussed this plan.

Bruins go 1-1, ASU goes 2-0. UCLA is bowl eligible at 6-6 and ASU gets curb-stomped by Oregon in the inaugural PAC-12 championship.

Coach Thom Author Profile Page said:

Yes. UCLA will squeeze an upset win over the Buffaloes, then they will lose strategically to $UC, thus placing us in a not too demanding Bowl game. It was designed by Coach Rick and his supportive staff during Spring practice, and it has played out wonderfully. Well done, Coach Rick, Coach Michael, Coach Joe, and all the others! Please...more of the same next year.

At 6-7, they don't deserve a bowl game anyway, and at 6-6, I don't have a whole lot of interest in watching whatever low-level bowl game they get invited to play in, anyway.

Go Colorado and beat the Ruins. End the season early so we have a new coach to start recruiting. Wouldn't this be the best solution?

If you're going to troll and pretend to be a UCLA fan, it's probably a bit of a give-away to call the team the "Ruins"...

Common Rick. Find a way to beat Colorado to get that extention we all know you deserve. Losing to $UC by less than 3 touchdowns will also show good progress.

I'm a little confused. If UCLA wins out (goes 2-0) and asu wins out, who goes to the championship game?

I happened to place a bet on ucla (before this season) to go to win the division and go to the pac12 championship game (+600).

Thought this was complete lost money, but now it seems as though I can hedge the ucla-sc game to at least win some of money HA!

IT's all become TOO UGLY to comment.

Whoever plays Oregon in the P12 championship game will be a punching bag. Oregon will want to prove it deserves a rematch against LSU, and in doing so will run up the score as much as possible. Hopefully it is UCLA. Then the UCLA administration will really see how far the football program has fallen. If UCLA loses to Utah in the fashion it did, imagine the outcome of playing Oregon at Autzen. Bruins lose by 60?

What bowls would UCLA be eligible for at 6-6?

BE REAL Author Profile Page said:

If ucla and ASU end up in a conference tie, ucla gets to play Oregon.

Now, none of the remaining games are gimmes for either ucla or ASU. Colorado beat Arizona, but it was in a 50-70 mph wind, so that probably affected Arizona's great quarterback. Still, one has to think Colordo is not coming to the Rose Bowl to lay down for ucla. And then there is SC, and it is at the coliseum.

ASU can lose to Arizona and also to Cal.

Isn't it interesting how the only drama left in the
Pac-12 is to see whether ucla or ASU plays Oregon? (Of course, it could also be Utah if both ucla and ASU implode)

Clearly the bowl selection criteria rules need an update. I don't think anyone ever considered the scenario where a 6-6 team would be in a Conf Championship game. The rule is currently written as "a team finishing 6-7 would not be bowl eligible", but how could you rationalize a team winning it's division and not being bowl eligible with 6 wins?

James Cee Author Profile Page said:

What is really cruel is that if UCLA beat USC and somehow the Bruins ended up respresenting the South in the conference playoff in Eugene it would be another disaster on national television. Oregon would put up 50+ points on the Bruins.

If UCLA wins next week and Utah and ASU lose, Bruins are in Championship Game. What a weak year.
