Weekly Answers, Pt. 1

Check out the first batch of weekly answers…

1) What is the outlook for signing additional basketball recruits this spring. Any point guard candidates under consideration? – Anonymous
The Bruins are still in the hunt for Shabazz Muhammad and Tony Parker, though both are looking like less than sure-things right about now. Parker is all but gone, probably off to Ohio State, though he still has UCLA in his top-5, and Muhammad is going to continue to be a battle. They recently offered Zena Edosomwan from Harvard-Westlake, but it may be a little too late on him. There aren’t many high school point guards out there and UCLA may have to look the JC route again.

2) DG said in an interview that every square inch of campus has already been designated for bldg expansion etc. and there is no room for adding new football facilities. In this day and age will this ultimately be the downfall of the program or will we always have the academic hurdle be the 1st & foremost problem? – incalos
The academic hurdle will always be the hardest to overcome without a stroke of luck, but I think too much is usually made out of the football facility issues. They’re not the best, but not horrendous, though I still don’t quite get why they can’t use Drake Stadium more often.

3) How much longer do you think Dan Guerero will last as the Athletic Director at UCLA? – raybru
This coaching search isn’t doing him any favors, let’s just put it that way.

4) What’s your take on Kirby Smart? His name is not coming up AT ALL. Is this because Dan Guererro is focusing on current head coaches. – Marc
Nearly all of Smart’s experience has been in the Southeast, so I wouldn’t consider expect to come up in the normal coaching progression at UCLA. Perhaps that’s the problem in the first place, but it is also reality. He wouldn’t have many west coast ties, and UCLA seems to be only targeting head coaches or former head coaches.

5) Now that my far-fetched multiple choice question from a few weeks ago has come two-thirds true, let’s step it up a notch …
A). Tebow leads Denver to a playoff win
B). Prince leads UCLA to a bowl win
C). ESPN hires “2 Fat Guys” to shoot weekly – ucla-of-the-rockies

A, B, C, D (D being one of the two fat guys dying on the day of the ESPN shoot
