DG on hiring a coach without recruiting experience:
“Jim will adapt. It is a process that is learned very quicky in this business. Once you’re in a living room, once you’re in a home, it’s the same process of trying to convince a student-athlete to come and be a part of something spoecial. Being out on a limb, hiring an individual who does not have much experience on a college campus, I think Jim will make the adjustment and adaptation very quickly. Bottom line is that we want to recruit a solid football coach.

DG on the search process:
“I had a short list as I indicated from the very beginning when we had the last press conference. Jim was on that list.”

DG on hoping to find a Pete Carroll-type situation:
“Recruiting a coach is an art not a science. There are never any guarantees. But certainly if Jim can come in here and have similar success, we’ve made a heck of a choice.”

JLM on potentially helping with bowl game preparation:
“The most important thing I can do right now is get with the guys currently on the staff and talk to them before I go any further with any other staff plans. Those men have wowrked hard and they deserve that from me. That’s my plan. The first thing I’ll do is I’ll meet with those gentlemen, get to know them, and make decisions from there.”
