Mora makes it official with Breckterfield, Tuiasosopo

New UCLA head coach Jim Mora has officially added three more to his staff on Thursday.

A day after the school announced the hire of former Washington defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin, Mora took to Twitter to officially re-introduce defensive line coach Inoke Breckterfield and Marques Tuiasosopo, who went from intern to interim quarterbacks coach and now to tight ends coach. Earlier on Thursday, Mora made official the hiring of former SMU offensive line coach Adrian Klemm as offensive line coach and run game coordinator.

UCLA is expected to bring on Arizona State offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone and running backs coach Steve Broussard as wide receivers coach.

Klemm arrived in Los Angeles late last night and has already started recruiting for the Bruins while Martin has been on campus for two days. Broussard and Mazzone are expected to join the team after the Sun Devils' Las Vegas Bowl appearance.

Mora is a Defensive Coach and he keeps Breckterfield on board?

Did he watch any of our Defensive Line play last year?

So is Mora going after guys who can coach or recruit?

I must say, I am surprised Breckterfield made the cut...

I am pretty suprised about that hire as well....can someone with personal knowledge of Breckterfield's work with the linemen chime in. His unit appeared to have underperformed but was it because of the coaching or the quick passes that offenses would use to abuse our DBs who were playing 10 yards off the line of scrimmage?

Running Backs Coach Steve Broussard will also join me at UCLA with Demetrice Martin, Adrian Klemm, Inoke Breckterfield & Marques Tuiasosopo

Was it the line or was it Tresey's scheme? The line didn't see a whole lot of help with Tresey's bend but don't break defense. Teams kept six or seven guys blocking with four guy rushing. It's likely you're going to lose the battle most of the time.

I'm sure I saw Barkley spark one while he waited for his receivers to get open.

I have no inside information but there is talk on BRO that IB is being retained because he is the lead person for a lot of recruits and that he will be "on audition" this coming year for his coaching skills. It's also possible that Mora is waiting for the NFL season to end to add an NFL defensive coach or two. In his radio interview with a Seattle station he said that he will hire a DC but is not in a rush to do so.

FWIW I have been able to observe IB on the sidelines during games and I like his energy/intensity and the way he interacts with his players. The DL along with the rest of the defense of course needs drastic improvement, but personally I thought the DL improved as the year went on. This is not to say that I wouldn't mind a highly regarded NFL DL coach, but IB is a former All-American and All-Pac10 defensive end so I assume he knows his stuff. Plus if he is a pipeline for talent from Polynesia among other places, this is something to consider.

If Breckerfield is that solid, does it mean that we just didn't have the personnel?

The DL coaching has been pretty poor for years - this year's squad did not improve over time, it improved when Datone was moved to tackle. The DE's never got any better at holding the edge on stretch/outside runs, and the lack of a pass rush almost dictated the horrendous cushions the CB's had to give. If Breckterfield was the one responsible, then he needs drastic improvement on what he's teaching. Fortunately, Mora has experience and can maybe change that. I certainly hope so, because that is a primary area that needs to show improvement. Actually, it is THE most important area (even more than QB play, IMHO).
