Mora on the move
Thursday was a busy day for Jim Mora.
The new UCLA head coach announced the hiring of five coaches on Thursday night, making it official with Demetrice Martin, Adrian Klemm, Inoke Breckterfield, Marques Tuiasosopo and Steve Broussard.
And he joined Twitter.
The former was more important, at least immediately, as now UCLA has half of its staff ready to assemble Mora's first recruiting class.
"Each of these coaches will bring unique qualities to the UCLA football program," Mora said in a release. "All of them will be integral pieces of the UCLA football puzzle from their first day on the job."
Mora, known for his defensive coaching capabilities, has focused on his offense with his early hires.
Klemm, who prepped at St. Monica Catholic High and comes to UCLA from SMU, arrived in Los Angeles on Wednesday night and set to work as offensive line coach and run game coordinator, and he is expected to play an integral in UCLA's recruiting efforts during the next few days. He joined Martin in Los Angeles, as the former Washington defensive backs coach has been in the city since early in the week, finalizing his deal as defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator.
Breckterfield and Tuiasosopo, who was named tight ends coach after joining the Bruins earlier this year as an intern, will simply resume their recruiting duties, while Broussard will join the program as running backs coach after Arizona State plays in the Maaco Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 22.

washington state?...wasn't Martin at UW?
Yes, that's what I thought.
GO BRUINS
Still no Mazzone? Getting worried.
From what I've read, Mazzone is a sure thing. It hasn't been made official yet because he is coaching ASU through their bowl game.
Yes Martin is from UW.
Still think Jim Mora is the second coming (or first) of Marky Mark. Do a google search. Other than perhaps the ripped ribs, they are one in the same.
WTF!!! Why in the hell did he retain frickin Brecterfield?????? The defensive Line totally underachieved last season under his guidance. They were supposed to be the strong part of the team and they played horribly. jones,Marsh, Owa all took a major step back. We had zero pass rush and Arizona ranked 113 in rushing ran all over us. Did Mora watch any film????
Not sure what to think from this video:

Also tru bruin that had a lot to do with the schemes implemented.
I sure hope Mazzone is still coming on. I thought that was the best "hire" if all the early reports.
As to Brecterfield, I think the horrible defense is about 100% on Tressey. That is the one name that I hope not to hear is being retained. Not sure if my recollection is on par, but I remember reading somewhere that with Tressey gone from bowl practices, they've moved Datone Jones back in the middle. If you recoll, the game when Jones was in the middle was his best and probably the whole D lines best. Yet, Tressey moved him right back outside once Marsh became available once again.
Jon, can you comment on that? Is my recollection right or should I make an appointment with the doctor?
Reeves Nelson back home in NorCal town of Modesto, where I was born. That local paper (www.modbee.com) reports today that Reeves will not transfer to another school, instead entertaining an offer to play next overseas in Lithuania.
Coach Mora was interviewed on sports radio yesterday in Seattle - here's the link:

GO BRUINS!
Breckterfield is our key recruiter for Polynesian and Hawaii recruits.
keep up the great work here JON...i trust this site and always turn here for any updates i need to know...untlike the BN site which is still running NEW fan posts about how in hell did DG miss mike leach?...i have heard alot of chatter about leach and some of it does not sound good...i think even DAN PATRICK thought that leach might not be the best fit for this school because of some personality ticks leach has that might not be a good fit for UCLA...ANYWAY...keep it up JON...THANKS!
Okay, sat on this hire for a few days before I posted.
I get Mora hiring a recruiting staff but I am starting to worry that there is no substance here. By substance I mean coaches who can teach and develop players. Klemm good recruiter but o-line at Smu never had to really protect more than 3 seconds. Martin - Sean Parker his protege was a bust but the kid had skills what happened. Broussard - Gerel Robinson was a can't miss prospect and he has developed into nothing.
Worried about this staff. Maybe I'm the only one.
Where is Yoda? He was always optimistic. I remember when CRN was hired and the dream team he called for SC's demise, of course in jedi speak but I was sold. Perhaps he can sell me again?
BruinGrad72: I can't speak to the quality of technical coaching of the new hires because I honestly don't know, but CJM addressed the first major priority (recruiting) by hiring assistants that can recruit and recruit well. He still has a few openings in his staff that I am quite certain he will fill with at least one or two NFL coaches who will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge. Also although Mazzone has not been officially announced, he is apparently a sure thing who has a very strong resume. CJM has stated in an interview that he will hire a DC but is in no rush to do so, so I have a feeling it will be an NFL hire. He is proving himself thus far to be well prepared with a plan, so I am certain his remaining hires will balance out the staff to give us the best combination of both recruiting and coaching.
