One Hundred and Eight
The UCLA women's volleyball team just sealed the program's 108th national title with a 3-1 win over Illinois in the national championship game.
The ninth-seeded Bruins captured the team's fourth title - and first since 1991 - with an impressive playoff performance, which included wins over Maryland, San Diego, Penn State, No. 1-seed Texas and Florida State. Including the title-match victory, UCLA dropped just three sets in the playoffs behind star junior Rachael Kidder, who had 24 kills against the Illini.

As a USC fan I can tell you from watching the semis the other night against Illinois if USC had advanced your girls would have beat them tonight. Very good effort from a fairly young team. SC better ramp up or they are going to be seeing you guys in your tail lights for the next few years. Great effort. Congrats.
Jon, a little constructive criticism. You do a great job covering football, and it would be great if you could do the same with basketball. UCLA is first and foremost a basketball school. Just looking at this blog today, I would have no idea that UCLA had its most dominant voctory of the season. This is not to take anything away from the women's volleyball team. It is a great accomplishment, and deserves a post. However,I really think your blog would benefit by making basketball more of a priority. At the least there should be a post on the result of every game.
I'd rather read one bit about VB winning a National title than read anything about the basketball team right now.
I think playing UC Davis with 1-8 record is not really that news worthy...I'd rather reading the great news of our volleyball team getting our 108th championship...Go Lady Bruins!!!

How do you cover football practice in Westwood and a ridiculous basketball game in Anaheim at the same time in different counties? US Davis could not have beaten a good high school girls team today, anyway.
That's Rachael Kidder (she spells it differently), and she's pretty bomb as a player.

I'm glad the girls vb team won the championship congrats ladies on a well deserve achievement. As for our bb team no need to post anything till tomorrow the team we played hasn't won a gm verses a div1 opponent. What I want to know is Noel mazzone going to be our OC this year or is he going back to Arizona st cause from what I hear the deal isn't done yet and big boy DG is being tight with the money.....I guess this is nothing new!!
Thanks, sdbob, in the back of my mind i always felt some of the people with class in trojan land could and do post realistic views. It gets old seeing the idea that women's sports mean nothing to the USC folks, yet so many gloating SC fans still post here on any occasion women of troy win over bruin women.
If you missed watching the match live, you can still see it on ESPN3:

Fast-paced & exciting match, and the players are very easy on the eyes. The awards ceremony at the end is also included. I didn't know that the championship volleyball players get to cut down a piece of the volleyball net (a really large piece at that) as a souvenir like basketball players.
Great victory the Women's volleyball squad...108!!!...i was watching on ESPN and cheering for our "brubabes"...that's not sexest, that's what they were called back in the old days of 1969/70,and i call them that out of respect!...:)
Bruincheerleader!
Hooray for the Champion UCLA Bruins' Women's Volleyball team! That was quite a thrilling match! At times very roller-coaster like and spine-tingling.
They are very great, strong, smart and very lovely! :)
Yes! There's nothing wrong with the truth! Because, they are marvelously cute! :)
@sdbob, that's a very classy post from you man. Much appreciated.
Dittos to sdbob's post, I'm just sorry our Ladies of Troy couldn't have made it to the finals, its always special when we fight it out with you for a championship. I would have liked to have seen our Jupiter and your Kidder go against each other one more time.
@gotro22, yeah, I think we were all hoping for the same thing, just like our men's Water Polo teams last week, in which USC came up victorious.
Bruincheerleader -- I think Brubabes refers to the Bruin Men's Freshman teams, I think specifically basketball, back in the day when they existed...
No Doubt @sdbob Like Bruin USC Track Meets of old, water Polo, soccer, and so on, We also need USC Baseball to come back to battle the Bruins. I believe both schools truly love the competition/rivalry and when its head to head for a National Champ it's that much sweeter. I know the USC fans actually want the Bruin football team to be much more competitive to make the rivalry crazy more competitive.
Anonymous...lol...you are absolutely correct sir...i had to google it to realize "brubabes" was the term used for the freshman basketball team...lol...oh dear i am getting old and the memory fades...
