UCLA signs offensive lineman
From UCLA:
Head football coach Jim Mora has announced the signing of Russian offensive lineman Alexandru Ceachir, a junior college lineman from Santa Monica CC. This is the first signee of the Mora era.
The 6-5/300 lb. lineman hails from Moldova, a country located between Romania and the Ukraine. He graduated from high school in the Spring of 2009 and then headed to Santa Monica CC in 2010. While at SMCC in 2011, he played tackle and earned first-team American Pacific Conference honors. Ceachir also helped lead SMCC to their first conference championship in 20 years.
Ceachir is a highly touted recruit that had offers from many schools including Utah, Colorado, Arkansas and Ole Miss.

It's SMC - Santa Monica College - not SMCC
I see we lost Morgan Breslin to SC. That was a hit especially since he seemed to be a solid commit for the past 6 months!
@anon 7:17
It is SMCC: Santa Monica City College.
Wow... Jim coach is going international!!!
GO Bruins!
Wow, it looks like UCLA finally has a coach that's going to take over the recruiting trails in Los Angeles. As a Trojan fan, I'm shaking in my boots. It's a matter of time before the Bruins start kicking our asses.
No its SMC the other guy is right santa monica college
If he's from Moldova, doesn't that make him Moldovan and not Russian? Moldova is an actual country.
I see we have some anonymous a**holes tonight.
Grow up.
Hope he's a mean eastern European man. Looking like Coach Mora is going to be bringing some true grit to the program. That is what this team needs.
Thanks, Jon, for the scoop.
Just checked with Rivals.com...it's Santa Monica City College or SMCC

Where is this SMCC? I've lived on the west side for 40 years and I've neve heard of the place...
after further research, I think Santa Monica College, Santa Monica City College and Santa Monica Community College are all the same. It is located at 1900 Pico Blvd.
But I am pretty sure it is a community college just like El Camino or Mount Sac.
Russians can do voodoo too man. Many gris-gris girls. Wonder if he is over the wall
@pvbruin Care to place a wager on that? It is my Alma Mater after all.
@pvbruin Didn't see your second post. But it's good to know that you're right before you correct someone.
'The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!' A great movie from the 60s. I LOVE Russians. They're big, they're tough, they eat borsch and drink gallons of Vodka. We need more of them on this slack-a$$ed football team. I'd also welcome some Turks...if they could pass the admissions test. Apparently, Turks are the strongest men, as a race, in the world, and they HATE the colours puke maroon and mustard. Bring them on, JIM!!!!!
So next year's OL could consist of XSF, KGB and WTF?
Vodka is good for voodoo.
I know two girls from Moldova. They are really ugly.
@anon 10:07
it has been a while since my buddies taught at SMCC... But I remember 20 years ago it was called Santa Monica City College just like Pasadena City College. I guess they jazz up the name to attract more student...
Glad that you worked hard at SMC or SMCC and transfered to UCLA.
Rules, vhat rules? Russians and men from zhe old Soviet bloc don't need no stinkin' rules.
I predict Alexandru will lead the Pac-12 in penalities
@art_v, you know what they say; ugly women equals angry linemen. Actually, I just made that up, but here's hoping.
Just to clear up the SMC vs. SMCC, since I live next to the school perhaps you will believe it. It used to be SMCC, Santa Monica City College. Several years ago, at least 20, it simply became Santa Monica College, SMC. Many people reporting or posting articles still refer to it as SMCC. However, it is now simply Santa Monica College.
To clarify:
The California Community College System is an organization whose members are all of the community colleges in the state. They are a separate organization from the California State College System and the University of California System. Each system provides education at a different level and targets different populations in California. Each entity (i.e. college or system) is a California corporation.
The Santa Monica Community College District is a corporation. It is a member of the California Community College System.
Santa Monica College is a corporation which is OWNED BY the Santa Monica Community College District. Santa Monica College is the official name of the school. Its website is smc.edu.
The Santa Monica Community College District and Santa Monica College are BOTH located at 1900 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica, CA.
Santa Monica Community College is the FORMER NAME of Santa Monica College. Legal documents use Santa Monica College, Santa Monica Community College, and Santa Monica Community College District INTERCHANGEABLY - often within the same document.
Santa Monica City College is a NICKNAME for Santa Monica College (formerly known as Santa Monica Community College). It is never used in legal documents regarding the college.
Essentially, these names are all refer to the same college:
Santa Monica College = Santa Monica City College = Santa Monica Community College = Santa Monica Community College District = SMC = SMCC
thanks Bruin Gold & ProbationU for the clarification.....I guess we went off the topic for sure ...:-)))....
Happy holidays to all Bruins
