UCLA Hoops notes
UCLA head coach Ben Howland on playing at Washington:
"They have a great home court. It's really a loud, hard place. They have great fan support that really gets their players going. I was up there a few weeks ago recruiting, and they did a good job when they remodeled it. It's loud."
On preparing to play at Hec Ed:
"As football does - and we do it to sometimes - you pipe in noise. I think it can help."
On the Huskies:
"Lorenzo has really developed a good program. They win year in year out and they play real hard. This team and last years team is a very good shooting team."
On a game like Washington's big loss at Colorado being a game to study for comparison:
"Colorado, you're up at 7,000 feet. I'm not sure Wilcox played in that game. Washington plays really hard at home, and that's why when Cal went in there and won it was a big win. You throw all that out. That has nothing to do with this game Thursday."
On Tony Wroten:
"He's a great prospect. No question. He's very athletic, handles the ball well. He's very good at positing up, attacking the basket and he plays really hard defensively. He creates a lot of havoc with his athleticism."
On Joshua Smith returning to Washington:
"I thought he played great last year. He had 16 boards, most he's had in his career. They're going to be there on him again yelling at him. Hopefully it's motivation for him."
On Travis Wear leading the conference in field-goal percentage:
"He's a good scorer. I think he's a hard matchup when he's playing the five for other fives to guard him. he's really a four being defended by a five. He's getting high percentage shots - his teammates are hitting. he had four dunks on Saturday and Jerime hit him for two hof them - he seems to be in right place at right time."
On how the move of Jerime Anderson to starting point guard helped the post offense:
"It's obviously been a plus for us making that move. I've been real peased with their assist to turnover ratio. Both of those kids have been producing."
