Morning Report: Day 7 of Fall Camp from San Berdooo

*Five videos coming your way as soon as they are uploaded (super slow wireless connection). You’ll hear from UCLA coach Jim Mora, offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, Richard Brehaut, Kevin Prince and Brett Hundley. I won’t post anything now about what they had to say and just let you watch the videos.

**It was a short practice in San Bernardino where the humidity was actually not as bad and if you happen to be in the shade you enjoyed a good breeze. But out on the field the sun was burning pretty good. The first of two sessions today went an hour and a half with only helmets and no pads. The second session later tonight was moved from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. as Mora cited the heat and recovery for the change in time.

***Here’s your daily injury report: FB Luke Gane practiced a little bit in drills. Still working to get back to full strength since suffering a groin injury in spring. RB Malcolm Jones (groin) was out there for a bit as well but limited. OL Tre Hale was back at practice after heat exhaustion but left early for the same reason. He looked pretty exhausted while being attended by a trainer. He threw up before heading back inside. OL Greg Capella left early with lingering effects from being hit in the head a couple days ago. Mora said Capella had not mentioned it until now so the team pulled him out just to play it safe. Linemen Jeff Baca and Alberto Cid still are out with lingering effects from a concussion suffered earlier this week. The two underwent concussion tests Friday at UCLA but are now back at the team. WR Kenny Walker was pulled from practice after experiencing tightness in his hamstring.

****Some much needed positive signs came when DE Ellis McCarthy, OL Torian White and OL Colby Cyburt were in pads acclimating to the gear. Mora said there’s a chance Cyburt and White could join their teammates tonight. McCarthy ran a little bit on Friday and ran some today as well. No time table set for his return, though I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s back by mid-next week. After undergoing tests it was learned that Torian White will need a corrective procedure for a heart murmur. But White has been cleared and will go through some conditioning before resuming full workouts.

*****Shaq Evans, Steven Manfro and Jordon James practiced returning kickoffs. Evans doesn’t have the explosiveness that Manfor and James have, but he’s a playmaker when hitting his stride. Manfro is elusive and James is hard nosed and finds the gaps.

*******WR Ricky Marvray looked a lot more energized in his second day of full contact drills. He definitely has a swagger to his step since ditching the red jersey. TE Joseph Fauria also participated in his first full practice since the start of fall camp taking part in passing drills.

*******Ka’imi Fairbairn and Justin Moreno took shots at field goal attempts. Fairbairn went 2 for 2 from 45 and 41 and Moreno was 0 for 1 from 46.

********The only stability on the offensive line so far has been LT Xavier Su’a-Filo and C Jake Brendel. After that, it’s anyone’s guess as Ben Wysocki filled in at right guard and Brett Downey at right tackle. Connor McDermott saw time at left tackle and Carl Hulick was at left guard. Kody Innes saw some time at center. Tre Hale filled in at left guard at times before he was pulled from practice. Again, not having a consistent unit is hurting the line’s chance to develop cohesiveness before the end of camp.

**********Forgot to mention (h/t Joseph on the comment section) that OL Alexandru Ceachir (heat) and Will Oliver (heat) did not practice today. No word on when they’re set to return.
