RB Terrell Newby announcing decision Wednesday

UPDATE: Terrell Newby picked Nebraska. Most were guessing Cornhuskers heading into his afternoon press conference, but UCLA could have used the four-star back to build some depth at the position. If Damien Thigpen doesn’t fully recover from a torn ACL, the Bruins’ top returning rushers are Jordon James (215 yards, 2 TD) and Steve Manfro (70 yd, 2 TD). Paul Perkins, who redshirted in 2012, and four-star recruit Craig Lee both have the ability to earn significant roles.

Terrell Newby, a four-star running back out of West Hills Chaminade, will decide between UCLA and Nebraska at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday during a school press conference. Newby doesn’t have exceptional size at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, but combines track-star speed with vision and quickness. Nebraska recruited him hard and early, but the Bruins are only 20 miles away from his high school as opposed to over 1,500.

Newby rushed for 2,129 yards and 43 touchdowns his senior season, with one of his most impressive performances being an eight-touchdown eruption against Harvard-Westlake.

The Bruins have four-star back Craig Lee committed in the 2013 class, but doesn’t return much established rushing talent. Damien Thigpen still needs to recover from a torn ACL. Thigpen has also lost time in the past with a torn hamstring and fractured clavicle, so he might not be a quick healer.
