Kylie Fitts picks UCLA

As most expected, four-star defensive end Kylie Fitts committed to UCLA Tuesday night, giving the Bruins an early start to what they hope will be an eventful Signing Day on Wednesday. Fitts will enroll for the spring quarter and arrive on campus April 1. He had originally committed to USC before the school told him he couldn’t enroll early.

Will he have more motivation against the Trojans in the future?

“To be honest, probably,” Fitts said. “I respect all the coaches. I think they’re a great school. But something inside me is going to push me a little harder in that game.”

Here’s the video of his press conference from the Riverside Press-Enterprise. He starts talking at the 30-minute mark after a lot of dead time.

The most interesting quote from the session is his response to how much the whole fiasco with USC not allowing him to enroll early affected his decision. Fitts found out he couldn’t join the Trojans while he was shopping for dorm supplies with his mother, just two days before he was set to move out. He told Lane Kiffin and the rest of the staff that he had moved past that issue, but USC still couldn’t close the door again after leaving open a crack.

“To be honest, during the year, I always looked across town (at UCLA) and saw how much fun they were (having),” Fitts said. “I was almost kind of jealous. In the back of my head, it looked fun to play there, but I was just going to go through with my college decision and everything, to USC.

“I believe everything happened for a reason. When that whole incident happened, UCLA was the first school to call. Coach Angus (McClure), the D-line coach called right away. We had a good talk. I went on my official visit and fell in love with the school, just everything about it. Talking with Coach Mora, building a relationship with all the coaches, I believe that’s the best coaching staff in the nation right now. I believe UCLA is on the rise. They’re gonna do big things.”

      • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

Victim of SC cheating and lack of schollies, remember? Nice try though. Silly little Trojan.

        • trojan4life

NCAA being malicious. Be real you had a taste of it in bb.

          • Bru-Crew_UCLA

grow up and add something worth while U pathetic loser. sc is a football afterthought deal with it.

          • Toh

Come on Bruins! Don’t get bogged down with SC talk! We will beat them again. It’s all about beating Oregon and Stanford now, Kiffin will be gone after we beat them again in 9 months! Lol

          • Bru-Crew_UCLA

I’m more concerned about Stanford than Oregon…. I hope kiffie stays at sc for many many moons, they deserve each other.

          • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

Wah, wah, wah. Go cry with your own kind on the SC blog. Your “mighty” recruiting class just keeps getting smaller and smaller as UCLA’s keeps shooting up the charts. Seriously, dude, these kids wanna play for Mora. Kiffin is a joke. 38-28.

      • Just like SCs whole class is rejecting them.

        • trojan4life

SC early enrollees better than ucla’s entire class. Sorry!

          • I’m sure adding so few players to an already thin team will be a great thing!

          • trojan4life

No not great but hopefully enough to beat mighty little bruins. This is UCLA football we are talking about.

          • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

38-28. This is SUC football we’re talking about.

  • Marc

This is really good news. Now, I hope UCLA can hold onto Priest Willis.

  • Huge!

Yes, you are a sore loser. Self-talk is healthy for you, and we are glad that you realize it.

  • bruinbiochem06

Although Fitts committed to the Bruins, I expect him to spend most of his time in the USC backfield!

    Go Bruins!!!

  • Ucla Dave

After 23 yrs of being a Ucla football season ticket holder I’m so thrilled to see Ucla on its way back up. It does not matter that the cheaters across town have many 5 star recruits. Kiffin will screw it up. It showed at the Rose Bowl this yr 38-28 and with Mora we actually have a real coach that has players that want to play for him. who wants to be a trojan for life when you can be a Bruin forever! Go Bruins!!

  • Lifelong Bruin Fan

Seems like a nice young man, a great addition to the program. Will be rooting for his success.
