If Joe Mixon becomes an All-American, it likely won’t be at UCLA.
The five-star running back cut the Bruins from his list of prospective schools, a big hit for a team that has struggled to gain recruiting momentum and needs to replace all-time leading rusher, Johnathan Franklin. Mixon’s top 10: Tennessee, Oregon, Florida, Texas A&M, Cal, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Oregon State, Washington.
Ranked the fourth-best tailback in the country by both Rivals.com and Scout.com, 6-foot-2, 207-pounder is an explosive athlete who excels at finding seams and bursting downhill. The Oakley (Ca.) Freedom High senior also has the hands and route-running ability to become a passing target. He has stated plans to play with both five-star cornerback Adoree’ Jackson and four-star offensive guard Damien Mama, though the trio do not have identical shortlists.
UCLA did build secondary depth with two-star recruit Antreal Allen, a 5-foot-10 cornerback from Auburn, Ala., and local three-star safety JoJo McIntosh (West Hills Chaminade). The former announced his decision on Twitter, while the latter did so in a Vine posted by Rivals.com’s Edward Lewis.
