Darren Andrews and receivers coach Eric Yarber go way back

He also has strong ties to receivers coach Eric Yarber. Andrews’ father, also named Darren, grew up around the corner from Yarber in Los Angeles. The two first met each other when they were around seven or eight years old, and both attended Crenshaw High.

Always “Uncle Yarbs” to the younger Andrews, the 49-year-old sometimes can’t quite believe he’s coaching a kid he once held as a baby.

“It is surreal,” Yarber said. “To see him grow year after year after year, then I go to Tampa Bay (to coach) and come back — I see a almost a full-grown man. With the skill set that he has, it makes me feel real proud.”

Andrews wasn’t a highly regarded recruit out of Bishop Amat in La Puente, but has showed off good speed and made some decent catches. If he doesn’t redshirt, he’ll contribute mostly on special teams barring injury to the receiving corps.
