Seems about right, all things considered. Maybe #9 was appropriate at the time, and winning one of the last 2 would have justified it. Ucla can climb back by winning a few in a row.

  • john wolcott

State of ucla football– hard to tell.

Stanford and Oregon are Top-10 teams so not many clubs will beat them. ucla held its own for good parts of both games.

Mora says ucla has to cut down on its mistakes, but Oregon made mistakes too, it had a fumble and a blocked punt that accounted for both of ucla scores, so there is more to it than that.

The Ducks and Cardinal have developed a winning habit that helps to perpetuate their winning ways. They will be difficult for any Pac-12 team to overcome for at least several years.

  • O. C. bruins

I am extremely proud of this team this year. In every game we had a chance to win, even with teams like Oregon and Stanford. Jim Mora is changing the attitude of this team.

    • EncinitasBruin

Ditto. Will bounce back in a big way against the hapless Buffs this weekend in the RB, and inevitably climb into top 15 again.

  • EncinitasBruin

No time to panic, Bruins… Mora is 14-7 as our head coach: 8-1 at home, the sole loss a 27-20 slugfest against a very good OSU team last year. Also, 5 of Mora’s 7 losses have been against elite teams (Stanford three times, Oregon, and Baylor–and all those games were either away or at a neutral site). Our two toughest games, against ASU and UW, will be in the Rose Bowl–a huge advantage. I think we run the table going into the Mausoleum showdown…

    • The Craw

Two losses at home. Lost to Stanford last year, unfortunately.

      • EncinitasBruin

        You are correct. Edited above.

  • 92104bruinfan

Going into the season, my thought was the schedule was more difficult than 2012 and the Bruins would be improved even if the record might be the same or just a tad better than last year. I’ve seen nothing to change my mind. 9-3 or 10-2 with another Pac 12 South title is a very realistic possibility. I do think the experience the freshmen are getting will pay huge dividends as early as next year when the Bruins get both Oregon and Stanford in the RB in 2014. Oregon and Stanford are still the elite programs of the Pac 12 but the Bruins are closing the gap. I think they are closer than ASU or Washington at this point. Time to gear up for the final 5 game stretch of 2013…many goals still within reach. Go Bruins!

  • Jacob Ramir

We may just lose one more and that is in the conference championship game! I know our offense will pull together. The defense is going to continue giving the offense opportunities.

    • EncinitasBruin

Agreed. We have our two toughest remaining games in the Rose Bowl (ASU and UW), where we are 8-1 under Mora. If we can take care of business in those two games (and avoid a “trap game” loss in Tuscon), we enter the Mausoleum 10-2 and ranked in the top 10…I really like our chances.

      • Marc

I agree to a point. The optimist in me says, hey, UCLA lost two games on the road to the two best teams in conference, and played tough for most of both games. Heck, Oregon may be the best team in the land.

With that, I can see 10-2 being completely possible. Though, ASU, UW, and ‘Zona each present solid challenges. I also think that all three of those teams might just have better QBs.

I know I’m being harsh on Hundley, but he is the starting QB for a big-time football team. The pressure and expectation come with the territory. Some are questioning Mora for sort of calling him out in the post-game presser. I say, heck no! I think he needs to hear it. He needs to hear the criticisms and learn and grow from them. That is exactly what an elite player would do.

Then there’s the emotional pessimist side of me. Is Hundley’s confidence shaken and is he not elite? If so, then we can expect some more bad games from him. Will our defense and special teams win a game when Brett doesn’t show up? I’m not sure.

Also, I’m starting to get pretty down on Mazzone. You can’t beat elite teams by being one-dimensional offensively. The zone-read looks slow-developing and appears too predicable. They don’t appear to run different plays out of that look. I’m not a football genius, and can be wrong here, but that’s how it looks to me.

I’m hoping for 10-2, but won’t be surprised with 9-3 or 8-4. Better beat those TroGans, though.

          10-2? ROFLMAO

          • Marc

            What’s up you pathetic loser?

Yeah, that is what someone is who just hangs around on a rival blog making stupid comments all day long.

Does it make you feel better about yourself? You should share your idiotic posts with your mom, I’m sure she’ll be proud. She may even print them out and put them on the fridge for a while.

I’m sure shed rather look at those than the C- tests you bring home.

          • Joe Blow

Wow, this is a FIRST. A poster posting to Herself.

          • EncinitasBruin

            Creative, wittty, and accurate.

  • Bruin 34

We will be fine. Shows the respect voters have for Mora and UCLA. Everyone can see the change in this team and program except for those sorry a$$ worthless and clueless posters at Bruin Nation. What a joke they are! We will be fine and will rebound. Go Bruins!

    • EncinitasBruin

I wear my ban from BN as a badge of honor. The closest thing to Lord of the Flies you will get without pointy sticks.

      • Bruin 34

I created and account and ripped them all and told them their takes and opinions were clearly biased and that anyone who actually “played” football or knows anything about it think most of the stuff they post is a joke. They didn’t even let my post show up in the message board. If you don’t agree with them they hate you! I love it! Ha Ha what a joke of a site it is!

        • EncinitasBruin

Anyone who played FB at any time in HS or college is a threat to those guys. Would love to set up an Inside UCLA vs BN flag football game. I think I would accidentally lay out Nestor and Tydides via clothesline across the middle.

          • Bruin 34

Lmao! I agree. Don’t think they would want me going Zumwalt or Barr on them with my 6’3 240 lb frame and being a former linebacker myself. They talk really hard and sound Tuff in their posts. Pretty sure they would pee their pants b4 the game even started! Ha Ha

          • EncinitasBruin

Crap that’s funny. Yeah, I’m 6’2″ 185 and played safety for St. Francis, Dietrich Reily’s alma mater… Man, that would be fun. It would be a wee fest for the BN team.

            What a stud.

The office called and said your mom will be waiting at the back gate today to take you to your stamp show.

        • BruinInSeattle

          same

          • Bruin 34

You live in downtown Seattle? I moved to Whidbey Island over a year and a half ago. Only thing I miss about SoCal is going to the Rose Bowl to watch the Bruins play! Of course. They hire Mora and turn into a totally different program after I leave! Smh! Lol

          • BruinInSeattle

I live in the Rainier Valley, in South Seatle (south of the I-90). Been in the PNW since ’98. But grew up going to all the games — at the Coliseum, duing Wooden’s last year, even came up for the Finals in ’95. Bruins are a part of who we are as a family — mom, dad, sister, friends — than just a sports team. Anyway…I miss going to games, too…though the ticket prices seem to have exploded since the Donahue and Post – Wooden basketball coaches.

You get banned for disagreeing but they change their own opinions on a weekly basis.

You get banned for what they deem to be ‘insulting’ but question everything about Mazzone and his relatives after losing to top-10 teams.

        Utter madness.

        • EncinitasBruin

Basically, those guys are eunuchs and are jealous of anyone who owns a pair.

          • http://amillennialist.blogspot.com Santiago Matamoros

Neither Nestor nor Tydides (nor any of his other sycophants) would dare to post at this site, because here they can’t silence everyone who doesn’t agree with them.

  • EncinitasBruin

How refreshing to have one topic without a single Troggie troll…. the trick is to post after 9pm, after they’ve been tucked in by their moms.

    • NonAlumBruin

I am amazed there are so many comments and none are from trolls yet. I avoided reading these when I saw that double-digit count.

    • Joe Blow

Hi EB. I just love all the intelligent conversation here. Like HS football from the 50′s

      • Bigwoof1

“Joe Blow” and “intelligent” are oxymorons, but then you would only understand the moron part.

Yes, Blow, you just proved my point with your usual infantile retort.

          • Joe Blow

And you’ve proved mine….you’re completely empty from head to toe.

      • EncinitasBruin

Careful, Hamilton…you better put your iTouch away before your Special Ed teacher makes you stay in at lunch.

        I prefer reality.

        • ProbationU

Won’t know reality until after 11/30. QB needs to find his mojo again. Currently we have issues. Luckily we have Buffs coming up. Can thin Trojans handle Beavers?

          • Joe Blow

We always love to lick the Beavers.
11/30 will mean more to your program than ours. We already know we have a lousy team.

          • OCBrewin

            GO BEAVS!

          • ProbationU

11/30 will complete our season. We will know what our record is at that point. If we lose a couple of games and beat SC, it still won’t matter much. Like being the tallest guy in Lilliput.

          • EncinitasBruin

Joe, saying you have a lousy program doesn’t magically make us believe we have a great one. We have a long way to go–just not AS long as SC.

          • Joe Blow

            Wanna bet?

    • NonAlumBruin

1st you disrespected Bill Cosby with your avatar and now you’re disrespecting one of the best mascots ever…and it’s your own mascot.

  • Fafafooee

Lets face it, we are still not a top 10 program. Like Washington, close, but can’t make it that last step. We have to do it now or forget it, SC will be back soon. Mora needs to find the answer by next season.
