Tackle Torian White arrested on suspicion of sexual assault

UCLA offensive tackle Torian White was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of sexual assault. Already out for the season with injury, he has been suspended from the team indefinitely.

Police were called to an off-campus apartment on Glenrock Avenue at approximately 3 a.m. UCLA police department logs indicate an arrest on suspicion of “sexual penetration with force.”

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has not filed charges, and has asked for more investigation.

The redshirt sophomore has not played since breaking a bone and tearing a ligament near his right ankle on Oct. 3. He started four games at left tackle.

“We are aware of the situation involving Torian White, and we take these accusations very seriously,” coach Jim Mora said in a statement. “Torian has been suspended from the team indefinitely while the legal process and student discipline process run their course. Due to the ongoing police investigation, we are unable to discuss this matter further at this time.”

      ..at USC. Yes, we know.

maybe ucla’s hot headed coach should learn to teach his players some discipline and avoid situations like this. Would probably help with the penalty issues as well.

You mean like Pete Carroll? I remember him having OJ speak to the team before the Orange Bowl. That was a fine example.

        • LTEfan

NFL provides seminars to players about avoiding situations and yet they exercise their own free will and do the wrong thing sometimes…what a shock…unless the player had a reputation and history of getting in trouble, what was Mora supposed to do by way of a preventive measure?

Conflating football and rape is craven.

      • Joe Blow

President of the Spur Posse? You’re a joke. Another ucla football player in the gutter. At least he wasn’t drunk.

        • LTEfan

What happened to the last 3 UCLA football players who were kicked out of the program for off-field misdeeds? They were welcomed with open arms by other Pac-12 schools. Apparently, the problem of football player off-field behavior spreads far beyond Westwood, perhaps even to your preferred campus.

          • Joe Blow

Let’s just go back 50 years. Listen moron, I know it goes on everywhere. A lot of these players, EVERYWHERE, are thugs. Just tired of the “holier than thou” attitude of ucla, fans & coaches. So quit trying to whitewash White. My bet is it DID happen (same for Sanchez), BUT not enough evidence…..he said, she said. Total bs, especially since I’M paying for part of his lousy education.

          • LTEfan

Oh, I see, someone who disagrees with you is a moron. Strong rebuke. Relatively new to this board, but I see why you are so popular. Troll on.

          • Joe Blow

It’s not disagreement, it’s attitude. You’re full of it. Why would you bring up Sanchez, who grabbed a girl’s rear end at a bar compared to an alleged RAPE? Are you kidding me? You are a moron.

          • LTEfan

Sanchez was arrested on a sexual assault allegation, suspended, DA decided not to charge, and then he was reinstated to the team. At this point, White has completed the first two stages of that process (arrest and suspension). We shall see about the next stage. It is obviously premature to deem him guilty because no charges have been filed. That is the point of comparison with Sanchez, sir, I never said that all the facts line up. Have I spelled it out clearly enough, or is it still beyond comprehension?

Apart from the name-calling, that was a decent post.

Perhaps if we put down our “holier-than-thou” and you put down your “we’re better than you,” we can enjoy some football.

          • Joe Blow

            Never said that, but ok.

  • LTEfan

    Get comfortable, Caleb.

  • EncinitasBruin

We are not FSU. White should not be allowed to play–injury or no injury–until this very serious allegation is resolved. Mora seems to be handling it appropriately thus far.

  • Mark

No charges yet, the article clearly states.

    • maze949

Can you just go away? This is actually irrespective of all your daily moronic musings. You’re an embarrassment to my alma mater, just in general.

      • Mark

And you’re an embarrassment to yourself.

Brian Banks story should seriously be standard reading for all college athletes. Don’t mess with crazy.

The DA’s office apparently rejected the case for further investigation according to the report. This means that the evidence that the police provided to the DA was, in someone’s view, insufficient to prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. That doesn’t mean more evidence won’t become available, but at this point it doesn’t seem like there was enough.

    • LTEfan

True enough, but this just happened Sunday morning, so it’s too soon to draw any conclusions.

      • Joe Blow

I have an idea. Forget charging the kid. Let him have a 10 minute meeting, alone, with the girl’s father. Case closed.

  • Mark

I’m sure Steve Alford has some good advice on how to handle this situation.

  • Cheap seats

At first, I thought to myself, why didn’t the kid just move on and find a girl that actually consents to some action? After all, more than half the time all you have to say is, “I’m on the football team..” and you’re in.

Then I realized he’s an offensive lineman.
