Jim Mora dismisses rumors connecting him to Texas

Despite having agreed to an extension through 2019, Jim Mora has come up again in the college football coaching carousel.

With Mack Brown retiring after Texas plays in the Holiday Bowl, one of the premier jobs in the sport is now open. Bovada gives UCLA’s second-year coach 10-to-1 odds on filling the void in Austin.

Mora did his best to dispel the rumors on Tuesday.

“It’s flattering, and I think it says a lot about our program and the direction we’re heading,” he said. “But I am very, very, very, extremely, delightfully happy to be the head coach at UCLA and want to be for a long, long time.”

After Tuesday’s practice — the first consisting of actual prep for Virginia Tech — Mora also talked about what he’s seen from the Hokies, as well as his young defensive linemen.

10-1 odds? What a joke. No way Mora leaves…

All of the odds are in that range even though I don’t expect any of the listed coaches to end up at Texas. Those low numbers are just there to attract suckers.

What odds did those folks put on Mora leaving UCLA for the job at his alma mater a couple weeks ago?

I thought Texas will play in the Alamo Bowl?

Correct, they will be getting boat raced by Oregon in the Alamo Bowl in Mack’s last game.

The torture for you ruins begins next week when 10 NFL jobs open up and Mora is listed as a favorite for every one of them!

Maybe Mora isn’t so keen on the NFL (at least now); getting fired twice after a total of 4 seasons from two NFL head coaching jobs can have that effect. Maybe his track record makes NFL teams far less interested in him than is publicly assumed. Sure, the media will speculate, whatever. Perhaps USC fans should stop wishing so badly that Mora will leave UCLA, since they probably think he is a lousy coach anyway, otherwise why would UCLA have hired him. That is the usual trOJan logic. But their desire to deflect attention away from their own school’s unimpressive head coaching hire (twice in a row now) is certainly understandable.

he’s a way better college coach than pro. boys react differently to him then men. i trust he understands that. he has a real opportunity to make a difference in these kids lives and i think he appreciates that.

Put it on your Christmas list, gotroy. Santa is real and does read his mail…

At least SuC doesn’t have to worry about that with Sarkiffen!

Its pretty funny and entertaining to watch actually. I’m glad to know that we have a HC that everyone wants. They’ve seen the dramatic turnaround at UCLA. Love Mora and love our staff. Can’t wait for signing day and hope we snag Mixon. He’s making his decision durning the Army game.
