Anthony Barr lands fourth major All-American honor

Anthony Barr’s All-American run keeps rolling on, as the UCLA linebacker picked up a spot on the American Football Coaches Association squad this morning. It was the senior’s fourth placement on an NCAA-recognized team, with the prior three being the Walter Camp, Sporting News and Associated Press.

If Barr also lands on the Football Writers Association of America’s first team later today, he will be the 11th player in UCLA history to earn unanimous All-American honors, and the first since Maurice Jones-Drew in 2005.

UPDATE: Barr was a FWAA second-team All-American, leaving him as a consensus selection overall. There were 10 unanimous All-Americans this season, with the only linebacker being Alabama’s C.J. Mosley.

Buffalo??? What??? How can this guy go 1st team over Barr?? talk about East Coast Bias – this organization must be affiliated with espn. have you seen the espn picks? What a joke.

Khalil Mack is legit. Holds NCAA record with 16 forced fumbles and tied Jason Babin’s NCAA record with 75 career tackles for loss. (Also, hard to cry East Coast bias when it comes to a MAC school.)

I had Barr, Mack and Mosley on my FWAA ballot. I think what happened was that the ballot was due too early (mid-November), before Barr’s late push up the stats rankings. Many people across the country basing their votes too heavily on numbers. (And yes, I realize I just used numbers to defend Mack, but he put on a show at Ohio State and is probably a first-rounder next spring.)

I stand corrected….kinda. I still don’t see how you can take someone that plays at Buffalo and is possibly a first round pick and put them above Barr who is a very early first round pick and gets double teamed and held by top O-lineman, yet still produces solid numbers.

Not that you chose him over Barr…but that he was selected over Barr. I think you probably understood me.
