After hammering UCLA in 2012, the shadowy figures in charge of Pac-12 scheduling smiled on the Bruins this year.

UCLA’s 2014 slate sets the team up well as a heavy division favorite. Rather than the brutal back-to-back Oregon and Stanford trips it took last fall, the Bruins get to visit Cal (Oct. 18) right before it heads to Colorado (Oct. 25), balancing any road weariness with matchups against the conference’s two lowliest teams.

A timely bye also breaks up a tough end to the season. After traveling to Washington on Nov. 8, the Bruins will get a week off before hosting USC on Nov. 22 and Stanford on Nov. 28. The Friday night kickoff against the Cardinal does shorten UCLA’s preparation time for what could be its most crucial game.

If both the Bruins and Stanford win their respective divisions, they will play each other twice in a row — echoing a 2012 scenario that featured this thrilling press conference.
