Four-star defensive end Matt Dickerson flips to UCLA

Four-star defensive end Matt Dickerson has flipped from Notre Dame to UCLA, giving the Bruins even more depth on what is already a young, talented front.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound native of San Mateo, Calif., is rated 15th at his position nationally by Rivals.com and 21st by Scout.com.

Bruin Report Online first reported the news. According to MaxPreps.com, Dickerson’s father was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, while his mother also has health problems.

“Calling (Notre Dame assistant Mike Denbrook) was a really, really hard thing to do, but it was the right thing,” Dickerson told MaxPreps. “I looked so forward to playing for the Irish. But I’m doing what’s best for my family and I. I need to stay close to home.

St. John Bosco defensive end Jacob Tuioti-Mariner also committed to the Bruins earlier this week.
