UCLA’s recruiting class history

With National Signing Day winding down, the team recruiting rankings have settled into place — barring any stunning change of hearts.

As of Wednesday night, UCLA is No. 18 on Rivals.com and No. 20 on Scout.com. USC is 10th on both.

Here’s where past classes for both schools ranked:

2013: Scout 3, Rivals 8 (USC 9/18)
2012: Scout 12, Rivals 13 (USC 20/8)
2011: Scout 55, Rivals 45 (USC 4/4)
2010: Scout 8, Rivals 8 (USC 5/1)
2009: Scout 5, Rivals 14 (USC 9/4)
2008: Scout 10, Rivals 13 (USC 9/8)
2007: Scout 36, Rivals 40 (USC 2/2)
2006: Scout 20, Rivals 17 (USC 1/1)
2005: Scout 24, Rivals 26 (USC 6/1)
2004: Scout 24, Rivals 43 (USC 1/1)
2003: Scout 35, Rivals 36 (USC 1/3)
2002: Scout 7, Rivals 9 (USC 12/13)

And no, recruiting rankings aren’t perfect. Nevertheless, they still provide a good indication of talent, at least in lieu of a better alternative.

Well Bruins, it has been an interesting day. A lot of Trojans over here on Wang;s blog with the Crapper and Joseph Way B Lowe Normal enjoying their recruiting victory. I so love it when they get overly cocky and convinced of their superiority. It just makes it that much more fun to beat them again and bring them back to earth.

Do not worry. Our team is better and it will be better again next year. They should enjoy their day in the sun. They signed some good players and now they have some hope for the future. They may even start to think that Sark is the reincarnation of Pete Carroll. They have a new signee that wants to channel Reggie Bush. Well, bring it on and dream on. We will have our shot at them in November.

And soon we will hear the usual drone from Way B. Low Normal laying out all the historical numbers. It won’t change the inevitability of our victory coming up again.

      Joseph Way B Lowe Normal

      Clever and apt. ;)

Living in the PAST again. Such a shame. Why don’t you work on your brand instead? Right now, there is NONE. When your coach says his best recruit is a current player, what a slap in the face to your new recruits. Mora showed his true colors today…..YELLOW.

      • Bruin 34

That’s it??? Pathetic! No wonder your own people on your own blog can’t stand you. Smh.

        Joey Kornwhole rants on.

You say words, we hear Charlie Brown’s teacher going “wah, wah, wah, wah, wah.” Beat a rival in this decade and we might take you seriously JoJo. 35-14 – SUC on that til November.

        • Joseph B. Lowe

          “wah, wah, wah, wah, wah”

          Mora: We have no BRAND!

          “wah, wah, wah, wah, wah.”

          • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

Our brand BLOWS SC’s out of the water:

CHAMPIONS MADE HERE: The nation’s winningest athletic program.

And what is SC’s brand right now, prey tell?

Here, I’ll get the brainstorming going:

“We used to be the good football program who had Pete Carroll as it’s coach–like 10 years ago, but then we got caught cheating, hired a terrible coach, and have lost our position of prominence nationally, as well as in our own city.”

We will wait to hear your brand… remember, it should be short, sweet, and be ‘sticky’ so folks can remember it… like ours.

          • Joseph B. Lowe

Sure it does. heh heh heh

            Just ask JuJu.

You grasping at straw. You know SC owns Los Angeles in football.

Send me a photo of the panties hanging in pauley. VERY IMPRESSIVE.

          • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

Come on Jojo, you’re ducking the question… What is SC’s brand right now? You seem so sure of yourself, so just tell us…

          • Joseph B. Lowe

Storied history of National Championships in football. Heritage with regards to Heisman Trophies, All Americans, NFL draftees, Outland Trophy, Butkus Award, I could go on and on.

Ucla? Mora had his single Heisman by his desk! We need a LOBBY.

          • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

I’d give that brand description a C. How about this:
USC Football–Home of the Heisman Winners.

Still, you have to admit the brand’s a bit tarnished right now. Last natty was what, 10 years ago? Last Heisman? Last division championship?

          • Joseph B. Lowe

How long ago was YOUR last Heisman? Like what decade?
A division championship? Are you kidding me? You’d actually be proud of a DIVISION championship? If so, that is why you’ll never make the big time.

          • Demosthenes

Do you have Heismans Joe? That’s truly impressive. Either you are Archie Griffin or you’re channeling multiple athlete’s ala Shirley MacLaine.

          • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

Again with the deflections. What does USC football stand for today? Not 10 years ago. You can’t even articulate it. You guys get all giddy about a #11 class, when under Carroll if you were out of the top 5, it was a failure. You have fallen so far you can’t articulate the brand for SC football 2014, can you? Ours is clear, short, and distinct: CHAMPIONS MADE HERE: WINNINGEST PROGRAM IN COLLEGIATE SPORTS.

All talk and no production. Like your football team.

          • Joseph B. Lowe

            Not in Men’s Athletics.

          • Demosthenes

I don’t remember Jim Mora winning a Heisman. I think you have that one wrong, Joe. And as for going on and on, not only could you, but you do… on and on… repetitively…. ad nauseum… often with no purpose

Here is the problem with the rankings based on the total computed number. It is based on the total number of signings times each of their star ranking. So schools that have less scholarships to give – thus fewer signings – have a lower ranking on this basis. A better way to guage the quality of a class is to determine the average star ranking for a class. On that bais UCLA is ranked as the number 9 class in the country.

    • http://amillennialist.blogspot.com Santiago Matamoros

      8th according to Rivals.

      • jameskatt

I checked this morning. On the basis of Average Star Ranking for a school:

        1. Alabama 3.92
        2. LSU 3.74
        3. Ohio State 3.74
        4. Texas A&M 3.71
        5. USA 3.68
        6. Tennessee 3.65
        7. Auburn 3.65
        8. Georgia 3.62
        9. UCLA 3.61
        10. Florida State 3.59

So UCLA is ranked #9. Not bad at all.
        Go Bruins!

        • Joseph B. Lowe

No Brand. So Cal kids want USC

          • SUCC de trop

            Thus spake Joey Kornwhole.

          • Joseph B. Lowe

        9th on Rivals.

(As of the time of writing of my comment, we were at 8th.)

    • Bruin 34

Exactly. Not sure if Jack doesn’t realize this or just doesn’t care. Smh.

  • Joseph B. Lowe

    No Brand

    • Bruin 34

      No balls.

      • Joseph B. Lowe

        No 5 Stars

        • Bruin 34

None needed. We are already loaded. I’m sure Sark can coach y’all to at least 7 wins.

          • Joseph B. Lowe

With the way you talk, it’s obvious you’re LOADED.

          • Bruin 34

It’s not my fault y’all hired 7 win Sark. Take it up with your wonderful AD. Love Haden! ;)

          • Joseph B. Lowe

            SARK – 1

            Mora – NOTHING

          • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

            Mora – 2
            USC – NOTHING

          • Demosthenes

What has Sark won yet? Is this just an evil ploy to rack up CAPLOCK residuals Joe?

          • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

            Caplock residuals. Clever!

        • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

No wins over Hundley and Mora.

          • Joseph B. Lowe

Your best “recruit” this year. What a shame Mora threw his lousy class under the bus yesterday. Showed his true colors.

          • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

I think you were riding on that bus–your pass is good through March, isn’t it? Only, that bus doesn’t run through Westwood, where people actually drive cars.

          • Joseph B. Lowe

            Very witty.

          • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

            I do what I can.

      • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

No comeback from that one, Bruin34. He’s still rolling on the floor in pain.

        • Bruin 34

          Lol. Rite Owns The Rose?

          • UCLA Owns the Rose Bowl

You are red hot today, 34!

          • Bruin 34

Gotta have my fellow Bruins’ backs. These buffoons think they know football. And not one of them has answered weather or not Sark and his staff is better than Mora and his. Love the mention of Bruins Nation. Ha Ha Ha.

beautiful better argument than BN. Is this a neutral bog for both school? Should invite Nestor
