Four-star athlete Jaason Lewis commits to UCLA

Four-star athlete Jaason Lewis committed to UCLA this morning, choosing to cross the country rather than opt for other finalists Florida or Tennessee.

Listed at 6-foot-2, 233 pounds, the Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes standout gives UCLA a big, versatile athlete and an early boost to its 2015 class. Lewis is rated the nation’s 19th-best athlete by Rivals.com and 22nd-best receiver by Scout.com, but could easily play running back at the next level. He has also played safety and linebacker in high school.

He is UCLA’s third commitment for 2015, after No. 1 tight end Alize Jones and three-star linebacker Victor Alexander.

looks like Mora and co. don’t want 2014 NSD to happen again…they’re hitting up the 2015 recruits early and staying on them! Anything can change come NSD 2015 but it looks like the staff is learning from their miscues.

    • SUCC de trop

Moises I think you’re wrong here. Mora concentrated on national recruits in 2013. Granted, Mora came up short on the last day, but not for not trying hard. The current 2015 class recruits are part and parcel of Mora’s out of state 2013 recruiting commitment. His national recruiting efforts will yield a rich vein of 4 and 5 star recruits in future UCLA FB commitments.

      • The EDGE

There’s a huge “vein” of talent in UCLA’s own backyard, unfortunately sc also recognizes this.

      • Moises Rosiles

i never said the less than lackluster finish was for lack of effort, i’m just noting a greater concentrated effort on getting to recruits early on. I’m sure the staff is still smarting on being outshined by ‘SC on NSD.

        • SUCC de trop

We’re on the same side Moises, and you’re entitled to your opinion whether I agree or not. I just think a mix of National and West Coast recruits will yield UCLA’s best FB teams.

      • LTEfan

Nestor on BN says Mora et al. are not trying hard enough, took too much vacation time last summer and fell too far behind. This is why UCLA was unable to get some elite recruits from Louisiana and Alabama to leave their home states and choose UCLA over SEC powerhouses. Yes, this is actual BN analysis.

        • ProbationU

          BN = Tools

        • CaliGrown

BN has totally lost my attention, as well as many other Bruin followers. I probably won’t go back to their site until the likes of Nestor & Tyd among others are gone for good.

When looking for UCLA sports/recruiting news all I need is BRO, 247, Twitter & this site to quench my thirst’

Whiner Nation is a bunch of fascists that banish those that disagree and celebrate yes men. They search endlessly for the negative to the detriment of the team they pretend to support. Those that worry that this staff is not trying hard enough have gotten off the train to reality.

          • Idaho88

True. I think Bruinette is just Nestor in drag…

          • gotroy22

Yes men? Sounds like they are devils advocates pointing out why Mora’s recruiting effort was so disappointing to you ruins this year.

          • LTEfan

No, BN is offering pure speculation as to why UCLA didn’t land some elite out-of-state recruits. Isn’t it more logical to conclude that kids from Louisiana and Alabama are going to stay in the SEC, than to theorize that they didn’t come to UCLA because UCLA recruiters took some vacation time last summer? The dots just don’t connect under BN’s theory.

You haven’t actually read their stuff.

Or disagreed with them in their comments section.

Nestor is Anthony Fremont with a keyboard:

        • Oz

For a blog that loves to go on the attack, BN can’t seem to name the coaches who they claim took a bunch a time off that hurt recruiting, they also can’t seem to settle on how many are card-carrying members of the communist party.

          • jabon

Oz, that last sentence made me laugh. Good one.

          • gotroy22

You ruin rah rahs can’t handle the truth. Admit it, Mora coasted this year expecting all those out of state recruits to beg to come to Westwood High.

          • CaliGrown

I can admit that our class was very solid and the out of state guys will come next year due to our on field success and a royal beat down of just SCum’

  • Mark

What’s up with the double vowel? Is he Dutch or something? What happened to players named Mike, Carl, Ricky, etc?

    • Oz

College football isn’t segregated anymore, that’s what happened.

    • maze949

You whine about everything…BN misses you!

    • jabon

Who cares about his name? His name can be Nefertiti for all I care as long as he plays well and is a good team player. Let’s hope he sticks around a year from today.

  • Joseph B. Lowe

    SC didn’t want him.

    • gotroy22

      He didn’t want to compete.

    • Demosthenes

Ah, Joe’s bitter tonic. Just like SC doesn’t want to be successful at any other sport. So therefore they aren’t. C’mon, son!

      • Joseph B. Lowe

Already have a lot of WR and ATH. Let him go to a second rate program, wherever that is. Oh, opps , sorry.

        • Demosthenes

Opps? That’s right, you are just lacking in the QB department. Oh, and on defense. I guess you’re right. Your focus should be elsewhere.

  • Joseph B. Lowe

I love Bruin Nation, the Bible of college football reporting. They know their stuff.

    • jabon

      Joseph,
You are spot on! That’s how they view themselves. Very funny.

    • gotroy22

They are the Garry P of Bruin sites.

    • EncinitasBruin

      More like a Poisonwood Bible.

    • http://amillennialist.blogspot.com Santiago Matamoros

      Now that’s funny.

  • jabon

Wang, can you write a piece about how bruin nation (Nestor and his zealots) does not represent the real Bruin Nation. Those guys are looney over there. Crazy! They think they are funny, but their work is just tasteless, immature dribble with notes of conspiracy to boot.

    • gotroy22

Why are you so insecure? Who cares what some website says…unless you fear they are right.

      • LTEfan

The issue isn’t whether they are right or not. It’s that BN is too much about abusive and offensive attacks.

        • Bruin 34

No. It’s about a completely ridiculous site where nerds think the know football and have no common sense or football knowledge or inside info.

      • CaliGrown

better question is why are Trojans here on a UCLA blog? The SC unemployed life gets boring huh’

      • Bruin 34

        That’s all you got??? Smh.

      • EncinitasBruin

If an otherwise great SC sports site was being ruined by immature, petulant trogladytes, then you would get it.

  • 92104bruinfan

Athletic and versatileity would seem to greatly enhance his chances of seeing the field very early in his career. Hope he stays on and inks his NLI in less than a year. Great get. Go Bruins!

  • EncinitasBruin

We are off to a stronger start this year than we were a year ago. Along with Lewis, we have a verbal from the #1 TE in the nation, 5-star Alize Jones. Also, we just offered Elite 11 ’16 QB prospect Malik Jones, who is in the mold of Hundley and Woullard.
