Bruins to open Pac-12 Tournament against Oregon or Oregon State

Pac-12 Tournament 2014

Although UCLA earned the No. 2 seed in next week’s Pac-12 Tournament, its opening matchup won’t be a breeze.

The Bruins first game in Las Vegas will tip off next Thursday at 6 p.m. against either Oregon State or Oregon, who face each other exactly 24 hours earlier. UCLA split the season series against both, though its loss to the Ducks came with an asterisk: Even with star guards Kyle Anderson and Jordan Adams both suspended, the Bruins still forced two overtimes before losing.

That said, Oregon’s talented roster is playing its best basketball of the season after starting conference play with five straight losses. Dana Altamn’s team capped a seven-game win streak with an upset of No. 3-ranked Arizona. It has held its last six opponents to 39.1 percent shooting.

The Beavers enter the MGM Grand as the No. 10 seed, but gives UCLA a lot of trouble with athletic forwards.
