Pac-12 links: Conference sets revenue records with help of new TV deals

» The Pac-12’s new TV deals pushed it to $334 million in revenue for the 2012-2013 fiscal year — the record for any college conference. UCLA gets a $19,838,644 payout.

» Two recent pieces on former UCLA stars worth reading: Grantland’s look at the unusual career arc of point guard Russell Westbrook, and Sports Illustrated’s story about safety Rahim Moore and how he nearly lost his leg.

» UCLA’s use of a drone in football practices is part of a larger trend in sports.

» Todd Graham’s one-year extension will keep him at Arizona State through the 2018 season, and raises his annual salary to $2.7 million.

» Arizona has also agreed to contract extensions to May 31, 2019 for basketball coach Sean Miller, football coach Rich Rodriguez and athletic director Greg Byrne.

» Utah running back Lucky Radley once knew Isla Vista shooter Elliot Rodger when they were both fourth graders in Woodland Hills.

» Oregon lost out on four-star 2015 quarterback Kyler Murray, who committed instead to Texas A&M. Former Ducks quarterback Damion Hobbs is also transferring to Utah State after redshirting in Eugene last season.

» Former Oregon State center Angus Brandt will participate in the Sino-Australia Challenge this weekend and next weekend.

»’s Bucky Brooks named Cal’s Jared Goff as one of his quarterbacks to watch in 2014. Jameis Winston topped the list, while Brett Hundley was ranked third.

» ESPN gave Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins a 12-to-1 shot at succeeding Mike Krzyzewski at Duke, a generous estimate even if Stanford did make a Sweet Sixteen this spring.

» Washington basketball legend Bob Houbregs died Wednesday morning at age 82. The forward helped lead the Huskies to their lone Final Four in 1953.

» After suffering through “paralysis by analysis” at the Cardinals OTAs, former Washington State safety Deone Bucannon is sidelined with turf toe.

Still wondering when the Pac12 Network will be on Charter.

  • “revenue records”?

Imagine how much more profitable the conference would be if USC still played football!

    (Or basketball.)

    • NOBSisdaMAN

If is wasn’t for USC, the Pac12 would be defunct.

      • Demosthenes

Yeah, because they are still getting all the primetime national TV schedules unlike Oregon and Stanford….. bahahahahahah!!!

        • NOBSisdaMAN

Yeah, like the bruins are a hot commodity. Hahahahahaha. Losers.

          • Demosthenes

Again, didn’t mention the Bruins in my post. Reading is fundamental Joe. Those who can’t are the real losers.

          • NOBSisdaMAN

            i’ll have milk

      • Demosthenes

and they are season in and out always in the top 10 like Oregon and Stanford….. bahahahahahah!!!

      • Demosthenes

and all of the national recruits have them in their shortlist like Oregon and Stanford….. lolz

        • NOBSisdaMAN

          Or like ucla? Hahahahahahaha

          • Demosthenes

Pretty sure I didn’t say UCLA. Nope, just reread my post. Didn’t mention them.

      • Demosthenes

USC is irrelevant in the Pac-12. They used to be in football and will be again soon, but you might as well field cardboard cutouts in the rest of your sports

        • NOBSisdaMAN

Sure they are. Just like Mailbu is irrelevant in the beach scene. Sorry you’re from tin can beach.

          • Demosthenes

Just saying “sure they are” and making an irrelevant beach reference does not make it so, Dorothy. Click your heels and repeat after me “There’s no place like home…”

          • NOBSisdaMAN

            Prunes are good.

        • But cardboard cutouts would only highlight how far the Trojans have fallen, since they show more character and fighting spirit than their football and basketball teams.

Which makes Joseph Way B. Lowe Normal a fitting spokesperson for them.

          Watch him prove it in … 3 … 2 … 1 …

      • USC football and basketball are defunct, despite the Pac-12.
