As injuries pile up, UCLA takes break from Thursday practice

Finally, a breather.

With injuries piling up for UCLA, head coach Jim Mora decided to give his Bruins a break — cutting its Thursday practice short. Instead of hitting the field for two hours at 11:15 a.m., the team will practice for a few minutes, then jump in the pool to cool down.

Though temperatures have been milder at Cal State San Bernardino than during UCLA’s last two training camps, the players looked like they needed the rest. Beat down by nine days of camp, the Bruins left standing were sluggish in Wednesday night’s full-pads practice.

Many didn’t take the field at all. The offensive line is without starting center Jake Brendel (MCL), reserves Scott Quessenberry and Carl Hulick. Guard Alex Redmond (heat exhaustion) and tackle Conor McDermott (shoulder) had missed several practices before returning Wednesday night.

Safety Randall Goforth and cornerback Marcus Rios were also absent. They had suffered a shoulder injury and a headache, respectively, earlier in camp.

Receiver Devin Lucien, briefly hospitalized on Tuesday after hitting his head, showed up to Wednesday night’s practice but did not participate.

UCLA have three more scheduled practices in San Bernardino: 8:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. Friday, and 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

Great. Mora is softening up. There goes our dynamite season. There’s always basketball.

well on the bright side, not too many serious knee, shoulder or ankle issues, those are the lingering ones to worry about. minor concussions and heat exhaustion will heal up no problem.

      Agreed.

Injuries aren’t piling up. They are minor knicks and bruises and heat realted. Nothing here to see.

I was actually at practice today. I got there early enough to watch most of it. Unfortunately, I am not much of a football analyst. But I did see them running a ton of situational stuff. Like 3rd and 2 on 20 yard line with 15 seconds left. Etc. etc. there was one point in practice where Jim Mora just goes aggro on the receivers. Brett Hundley was yelling at someone to get out of bounds and Mora jumps in and starts dropping F-bombs like he was Israel bombing the Gaza Strip. He just keep yelling that the receivers don’t know what they were doing and that they must have been sleeping during meetings. Later when another receiver apparently screws up, he starts dropping more f-bombs and starts criticizing the coaches. He was basically saying that it is the coaches fault when practices go badly. I had no idea that Mora had a mouth like that! Damn!

Where have you been? Mora has always been that way. You drove all that way to watch maybe an hr or so of practice. They were at the pool most of the day.

      • Danny Yao

Yep, unfortunately I did not get the memo that they were shortening practice. Thankfully, this was only 15min away from where I was working that day anyway.

        • Bruin 34

At least you didn’t have to drive that far. They posted it on bro if you have an account. Jack should have posted it on here though too.

Come on, Danny! It was more like he was dropping F-bombs like those POS terrorists bombing Israel!

Jack, you gonna do a report out on the pool party? Who had the best high dive? Did they play chicken? Marco Polo? Who had the best triple-gainer? Did they remember to wear sunscreen? Any sunburns reported? Do any of the players have water stuck in their ears?

COME ON, JACK!! YOU SHOULD BE COVERING THIS STUFF!!!!!!!!

    ;)

Pool party was scratched in favor of a screening of “The Equalizer.” Jim Mora called it one of the best movies he’s ever seen.
