UCLA bolsters OL depth with commits Kanan Ray, Will Farrar

On Friday afternoon, UCLA landed the first offensive lineman in its 2017 recruiting class. Less than 20 minutes later, it landed a second.

Four-star tackle Kanan Ray and three-star guard Will Farrar both announced their commitment to the Bruins, giving the program a pair of solid additions to the trenches. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Ray had 17 offers in hand, while Farrar — a Houston-area native — had over 20.

The former is entering his senior season at Chatsworth Sierra Canyon, where he is coming off a selection on the Los Angeles Daily News All-Area first team.

This is great. This is what I like to see. Also consider this. Have no idea if the two 2017 recruits know who’s ahead of them and even if they did…that’s all the better because it indicates they are committed to the program. While only a “verbal” commit…it’s still better than nothing.

Some times I feel UCLA gets guys at the last minute simply because those late commits are looking around for early playing time.

Not sure if Alex Redmond is a good example but consider this. Redmond was actually a verbal commit to Oregon. He de-committed and made a verbal commitment to UCLA in early December 2012. He even recently admitted his vision was 3 years and out at UCLA. So how did this all work out? Redmond earned 1st team FRESHMAN all america honors. Big deal. That’s all UCLA players ever seem to win since they are so dumb playing so many freshmen to begin with. 88 Straight thinks these “freshman” awards are great. LOL!!

As a true sophomore, Redmond was honorable mention. As a true junior no conference honors. None.

In the mean time, UCLA had two 2nd team all conference in 2015, one was 5th year senior Jake Brendel and the other was grey shirt Connor McDermott GJr. Connor is returning for his senior year also.

Must be about time for another depth chart!

      • Laker Rod

LOL!! Like you can put one together. NOT.

        • 88 Straight

Nobody can do unimportant things better than you, Rodney. You already know what Mora thinks of depth charts! UCLA grad with an emphasis on menus! LOL.

          • Laker Rod

If Mora was putting together dept charts maybe he’d learn how to recruit by position of need better. Seems he’s doing a more better job lately but still not enough linemen.

You trying to put a depth chart together would be a joke. Go ahead and list all the true frosh you want to start. LOL!!!! HA HA HA!!

You are the list master! Lord of useless information provided by the ignorant and illiterate. The virgin troll strikes again!
