Danusia Francis wins national beam title, UCLA gymnastics advances to Super Six

Senior Danusia Francis won a share of the beam title Friday, tying Florida’s Bridget Sloan with a 9.95. As a team, the Bruins advanced to the national final, finishing third in their semifinal session. UCLA will compete for the national team title Saturday against Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida, LSU and Georgia.

Francis’ title was UCLA’s second consecutive national beam title as Samantha Peszek won it last year. It was the school’s 34th individual championship. She is certainly no stranger to great beam routines this year as she scored a perfect 10 in March in a tri-meet against Georgia and Stanford:

The top three teams from each session advanced to the Super Six meet, which will be televised on ESPN U, starting at 6 p.m. Florida (197.475), LSU (197.3375) and Georgia (196.725) advanced from the first semifinal. Oklahoma (197.7875) took the first spot in the second semifinal, while Alabama (197.3875) and UCLA (196.7) also advanced.
