Some links in advance of the NFL Draft, which starts Thursday at 5 p.m.:

  • Laker Rod

Seems like some players can’t wait to get the heck out of UCLA. Hundley leaves to be a 5th rounder. Ellis McCarthy leaves early to go undrafted.

I can handle a UCLA player leaving early if they get drafted in the first round or they already helped UCLA win a conference championship.

I have no idea what the heck is going on with Myles Jack either. He claims his knee his fully healthy but he didn’t bother running the 40 yard dash. Why? It’s because he’s overweight at 245 and his times were slow.

And what does it mean when two teams in the Top 10 put him out of their consideration. Does this mean at any round due to possible longevity issues.

And I have no idea why people keep pointing to Gurley as a “success”. He has had one good season where he won Rookie of the Year but the life of a running back is short. Was it a smart move for the Rams to take an injured running back with the No 10 pick overall last year? I think it was dumb.

If a team wants to draft somebody in the 1st round from UCLA…I think Kenny Clark might be a good pick. He could blossom into a top defensive lineman. Clark needs a lot of improvement though. Was not impressed how Stanford, USC, and Colorado steamrolled UCLA with Clark in there.

    • 88 Straight

You keep changing opinions on Clark! And I can’t wait to see where Myles Jack goes. You have been rolling snake eyes for quite some time.

What year did you graduate UCLA again? LOL

      • Laker Rod

All I said is that if I was an NFL team…I would pick Clark over Jack. How about you. You spineless jellyfish.

And you tried to claim Jack might be a top 5 pick per the reports out there. LOL!! The stupidity exists on your part by passing on this type of reporting NONSENSE.

        • 88 Straight

Lying again. He had to be healthy and it appears he may need more surgery which a loser like you celebrates. It must be a pathetic life that you have to make everything up. Fake UCLA grad and will never address why you lied. Quite the sniveling little coward. Then you claim to be smarter than the NFL GMs and UCLA coaches. It’s all pure fantasy in your world.

          • Laker Rod

LOL!!! Backpedaling big time. What a loser! You must be pissed on how you are always WRONG. NOTHING works out for you. It’s because you are stupid and don’t do enough research.

          • 88 Straight

That is what said originally. You said 2nd round. I still think he will go in the 1st round.

You have totally changed your tune, Liar Rod and you celebrate his injury. Sad human.

Liar Rod NEVER answers any question about his fake degree. What round will Ishmael Adams go next year? LOL. Your best DB moving to offense. You can sure spot talent!!

          • Laker Rod

You’re dumb. Ish is a great college DB…he’s not tall enough for the NFL at DB. This is why Fabian Moreau is a better prospect but yet Ish continually outperforms Moreau despite what Mora continually says. Wake up. You again prove you know NOTHING. You just keep proving what a dummy you are.

          • 88 Straight

Adams is so good he is playing offense. A 5’9 DB from West Virginia just got drafted in the 1st round. Face it, Adams can’t cover.

Adams is so good that other teams go right at him in man coverage 3 things usually happen: a completion, defensive holding or pass interference. That is why he is playing offense, Liar Rod. What was your fake major at UCLA? C’mon, step up and answer, JELLYFISH!! LOL Pathetic.

          • Laker Rod

You’re so dumb. Ish Adams is like 5’7. SMH. You are truly the dumbest.

          • 88 Straight

That’s all you have. Name calling. The facts don’t support you but you cling to Adams like your fake diploma. He was beaten out and you deny. And you actually get pleasure out of Myles Jack’s injury. Zero credibility on several fronts. I know some dumb people but most of them are honest. You are a rare combo of ignorance and dishonesty.

          • Laker Rod

Changing the subject yet again. You realize what a FOOL you are. I repeat…you don’t do enough research or you simply don’t know the player personnel enough. Huge difference in a legit 5’9 CB who was probably listed at 5’10 in college vs that of Ish Adams who’s listed at 5’8 but in reality is more like 5’7. Wake up. You yet again show how dumb you are.

Jack out of the top 20 now. What a joke. Come on…you must be sweating. You’re already making excuses.

          • 88 Straight

I feel bad for Jack. You are pathetic enjoying his injury. Sad life of a lying troll. The info on Jack’s knee came out the last 2 days. You are changing your story again.

You said he was a 2nd rounder because he was only 6’1. Plus he was undisciplined. He wasn’t a good pass rusher. You thought he was a 2nd rounder healthy. Now you change your tune and celebrate his injury. You are a sad sack of human excrement that has accomplished nothing and savors the pain of a 20 year old Bruin. You should be proud of yourself.

          • Laker Rod

I feel bad for you. LOL!!! Not! You claimed Jack was a 1st rounder. WRONG! YOU ARE ALWAYS WRONG. How can anybody be so dumb. You’re an embarrassment to UCLA.

    • CaliGrown

How about you just give all of our Bruin alums a nice send off as they achieve their NFL dreams. You trip me out sometimes Rod.

Jack didn’t have to run a 40 and despite missing the season due to injury he’s still a first round pick. Every school has players leaving early and they also have players coming back. UCLA will probably have 8 players drafted this year. EIGHT! That’s awesome

      • Laker Rod

For what? I’ll give them the nice send off when they have brought UCLA the conference championship. It’s been close to 20 years since UCLA last won a conference championship. It’s been 30 years since UCLA won a major bowl game like the Rose Bowl.

    • Mjeng

Sometimes you have insight: sometimes you blather. This a blather post on your part. Young men in this day and age see the glory and riches: when it is in reach they go for it. They think I may get hurt or envy other UCLA grads or as in McCarthy’s case: staying was too much work. Life is a series of choices. (not some hidden flaw in the football program: seriously where did you get that notion?) Myles Jack’s weight is no doubt due to the injury but his performances and potential is off the charts. Post when you are not trying to have insight rather than spite> you might get more respect.

      • Laker Rod

Oh really….funny how Stanford retains their players.

And you try to explain away McCarthy but what about Redmond, Benenoch, Thomas Duarte, etc.

And Jack’s performances and potential are not off the chart. Quit being biased in your assessment. Just another UCLA homer. Since when did Jack play well against Oregon or Stanford. Since when did he play at 245.

Did you not read reports that Jack may need surgery on his degenerative knee yet again.

        • 88 Straight

And why are you so happy about the fact that Jack may need additional surgery down the road, Lying Loser? You claimed he is a 2nd round talent when healthy. Now you are happy he is injured? Such a pathetic troll.

          • Laker Rod

You’re a loser. I’m not happy at all. Frustrating is a better word. Jack can’t wait to get out of UCLA and risks being taken wherever in the draft when even he wasn’t sure he would be fully recovered or may need further surgery?

Come on…you’re trying to tell me Jack was not better off staying in school and try to play out his final year at UCLA?

You’re full of sh*t and you know it. All you try to do is argue against me since you’ve been punked and humiliated so badly.

Why don’t share your true feeling on what Jack should have done considering all the circumstances we know of. You won’t answer and you know it.

          • 88 Straight

You are celebrating because you think it makes you right, which it doesn’t. You have proven time and time again that you are neither smart nor honest.

If Jack has a limited career because of his knee, he made exactly the right choice. Earn as much as you can now. One more year in college equals one less year getting paid in the NFL. Quite simple yet still probably too complex for Liar Rod.

          • Laker Rod

I’m celebrating clobbering your butt for the 88 straight time. LOL!!! YOU LOST YET AGAIN. HA HA HA!!!

    • 88 Straight

Certainly you couldn’t wait to get out of UCLA! Oh wait, you lied about that. You said you graduated from UCLA but never even attended there. Pure fantasy. Who would ever believe anything you say?

      • Laker Rod

        Changing subject yet again loser.

        • 88 Straight

I guess you can’t handle the truth, which is why you lie. It’s always on topic. It goes to your credibility. You are simply a liar.

          • Laker Rod

Yet again…NEVER answers the point. LOL!! Proven.

          • 88 Straight

THAT is the point. You have ZERO credibility. You never answer why you lied. It will always be the point. You are incapable of the truth. That is what you have proven.

          • Laker Rod

Zero credibility. LOL!!! You claimed UCLA could win a conference championship with true frosh Josh Rosen. You claimed Chris Clark could start as a true frosh last year. LOL!!!

Hey wimp. Where will Myles Jack get drafted now. Don’t backpedal now. LOL!!

          • 88 Straight

1st round is what I said originally. You said 2nd round.

Zero credibility because you are a proven liar.

          • Laker Rod

Yup. You said 1st round and you were WRONG! W R O N G. WRONG!

Change your name to Wrong88 Straight. LOL!!! Fits you perfectly.

  • Laker Rod

I just a jealous little twerp with an attitude. I wish I had accomplished as much as Myles jack and like to talk trash. Maybe I’ll feel better if I post on this blog. Maybe not…

  • Laker Rod

The fact that Myles Jack has fallen out of the Top 20 proves my point. He was projected No 5? SMH. I hate to say I told you guys so but I told you so.

Think about it. Why are so many teams passing?

    • 88 Straight

Lying again. You said Myles Jack had 2nd round talent. You said he was too short, that he was undisciplined and he was a poor pass rusher among other things. It’s pathetic watching you celebrate this.

You lied about being a UCLA grad, so we know you as a person with no character or class. That’s the ONLY thing you continue to prove.

Everyone knows you are a little troll.

      • Laker Rod

Not lying. The fact he’s yet to be taken is already proving my point you loser. These things never work out for you and you know it. Even the Vikings passed on Myles Jack.

Come on…the Vikings had to ask Barr and Kendricks about Jack. Well?

        • 88 Straight

Not at all. You rated him on talent. This is based on his knee. You are really dumb AND dishonest. Celebrating this is displaying one more time that you are a loser in life. Everyone here laughs at you and sees what you are. That is why you lie and make up stories about being a UCLA grad and what you think you have proven. It’s all a desperate attempt to gain some sort of acceptance and it just proves you are neither smart nor honest. Pretty sad that you get joy from Myles Jack’s situation. He has already done more than you ever will. And, he doesn’t need to lie about attending UCLA.

          • Laker Rod

Quit making up LIES. There were a whole ton of factors as to why I put Jack in the 2nd round and his KNEE was definitely one of them you lying gutless POS.

Jack keeps falling. Serves YOU and him right. I told you.

          • 88 Straight

Sorry you can’t remember what you said, but I do. It’s pathetic that you enjoy his situation. It’s clear why nobody here agrees with you and likes you. You lie every day and invented your diploma, your wife and your entire life. Your friends are probably make believe too. Just pathetic.

          • Laker Rod

You’re a pathetic loser and you know it. All you do is make up lies to cover your wrongness.

4 picks to go dude. Get ready to eat crow. And I told you Clark is a better pick than Jack. LOL!!

          • 88 Straight

You mocked Clark all year and back pedaled. You are the proven liar. Still won’t answer the question.

          • Laker Rod

LIES again. My post is recent on here where I promoted Clark over Jack and you know it. You’re a fool. I repeat…get ready to eat CROW. 2 picks to go dummy.

You must be sweating it big time. LOL!!!

          • 88 Straight

            Wrongness? LOL.

You are as dumb as a rock. Not sweating at all. I feel bad for Jack. You are celebrating a kid’s bad break. What a tool!

          • Laker Rod

LOL!!! Changing the subject as usual. Hey…where is NYC Bruin? If Jack was taken…him and a lot of other posters would have already been on here.

          • 88 Straight

Nobody is as invested in this as you are. You change your story so often you lose track. It’s a problem with most liars. They can’t remember who they told what. You getting happiness from Jack’s injury speaks volumes.

Care to answer why you lied about graduating from UCLA? Jellyfish? LOLser.

          • Laker Rod

Like you’re not invested. You respond like 5 seconds every time after I post. LOL!!

Don’t change the subject and make up lies as usual.

          • 88 Straight

I’m not invested in failure. You are invested in Jack’s misfortune. It’s obvious that it makes you happy. Pathetic loser and a proven liar. You don’t even have the spine to explain why you invented your UCLA degree. Why don’t you answer that one, Liar Rod?

          • Laker Rod

LOL!! Sore loser. You got clobbered yet again. 88Straight HUMILIATED as usual. HA HA HA!! You poor old fool.

You’ll probably have trouble sleeping tonight. HA HA HA 🙂 Couldn’t have happened to a bigger fool. You might want to take a look in the mirror and wonder why this type of stuff happens to you.

Let’s keep in mind Myles Jack was predicted No 5 by the so called “experts”. I stood firm in my position and came out on top.

          • 88 Straight

Such an illiterate child. UCLA grad? LOL. Wrongness? 3rd grade reading and writing. Plus, our best DB is on offense. Can’t explain that. Can’t explain the big lie either. Keep dodging. Pathetic.

          • Laker Rod

HA HA HA!!! You lost yet again. Must be so humiliating for you.

It doesn’t mean much to me beating somebody like you. Like taking candy from a baby. Too easy.

          • 88 Straight

Like I said, enjoy your stupidity. It’s clear you have no life and enjoy reveling in Myle’s misfortune. And do you think I forgot that you earlier criticized Kenny Clark for leaving early? You change course and stories so often. Step up and answer the question. You don’t have the guts.

          • Laker Rod

Don’t change the subject again. YOU LOST THE BET. HA HA HA!! You’ve proven you’re not a man. You can’t admit you were WRONG and that I won the best.

Come on. Man up. Admit I was right…you were wrong. Admit I won the bet you fool. Come on. We all know you won’t…because you’ve proven what a gutless unethical POS you are.

          • 88 Straight

Myles Jack did not go in the 1st round because it was discovered that he might need micro fracture surgery which is career threatening and may not live out the terms of his 1st contract. It had nothing to do with his talent.

If you can show anyone that you predicted that in advance, then I will say you are right. In fact, in your more recent posts you merely predicted that he wouldn’t “play like a first rounder.”

Those are the facts. You are a proven liar and a self-admitted liar when you finally admitted you weren’t a UCLA grad. Those are the facts, Liar Rod. You will deflect and run away from them as usual because you are a pathetic little troll. Your victory like your UCLA degree is a figment of your imagination.

Real UCLA fans are rooting for Myles Jack while you are boiling some ramen in your trailer. Enjoy. It’s all you’ve got, Your Wrongness!

          • Laker Rod

Jack didn’t go in the 1st round for many reasons. The same reason I tried to tell you and you wouldn’t listen to. In the end…YOU WERE WRONG. YOU LOST THE BET. I WON. MAN UP. DEAL WITH IT. HA HA HA!!!

          • NYC Bruin

Laker Rod, too bad you never agreed to the bet, you would have won! Well Myles lost million$ tonight because of an unfortunate injury, but hey, you’re the real winner tonight.

          • Laker Rod

Myles Jack didnt’ lose millions because of an unfortunate injury…he lost millions because he made a stupid decision…plain and simple.

Jack didn’t go in the 1st round for a lot of reasons. You can’t use the knee injury as an excuse. Rams took Todd Gurley at No 10 last year. Well?

Jack had obviously had other negatives which YOU and 88Straight can’t fess up to. They are the same negatives other posters are now bringing up which I tried to tell both of you but you too wouldn’t listen:

            1. Jack can be headcase and selfish. Kicked out practices
            2. Jack and his penalties
            3. Jack quitting on the team and quitting school
            4. Jack really only is a weakside LB in a 4-3. He’s not an inside LB. He doesn’t shed blocks well…at least not what he did at UCLA
            5. Jack’s weight ballooning up to 245 in which he never played at.
            6. Jack only being 6’1
            7. Linebackers not necessarily a strong commodity. Teams will take more risks with offensive or defensive linemen

            8. Jack never performed well against the better teams like Stanford/Oregon.

            9. Even Jim Mora said Jack was taking a risk. BOTH of you tried to blow this off. Oh brother.

Next time listen and learn instead of being the stubborn mule heads you are. Try to argue with some logic also in the future. I will say this NYCBruin. You are much better than 88Straight that’s for sure.

          • NYC Bruin

Ugh, agree to disagree. Everything written about Jack today said he was a top 5 talent, but the draft has a lot of variables. I mean, do you honestly believe Tunsil is a lesser tackle than Conklin or Stanley, or was Carson Wentz the 2nd best player in the draft? I will be the first to admit, I was wrong on where Jack would go, but that doesn’t mean he made the wrong decision. Do you really believe that he wouldn’t have gone in the 1st round if he was 100% healthy?

I had an interesting talk about this with my grandpa (UCLA ’52) last night, he see’s this similar to you. I just don’t get how if his knee was an issue how returning to school helps him. In my opinion, the risk of playing another season without getting paid far outweighed the reward of making marginally more next year, as well as extending the time it would take for him to get to the 2nd contract. Either way, good luck Myles, I’ll be rooting for you.

          • Laker Rod

No it wasn’t. I tried to tell you why Jack was not even a 1st rounder let along a top 5 talent. We even made a bet on it and YOU LOST.

And quit making up other speculations. The point was Jack got hurt and he quit on the team and he quit school.

I recommended Jack come back and prove to all he deserves to the that top 5 pick. Nope…he tried to take the easier way out.

And YOU are wrong on all your nonsense about the risk of him playing another season of college. Anthony Barr came back for his senior year even after having a better season as a junior than what Myles Jack had. Eric Kendricks returned for his redshirt senior season and won the Butkus Award. Kendricks would not have been drafted in the 2nd round if he left after his redshirt junior year.

Are you going to try and predict that Jack will be a better NFL player than Kendricks or Barr?

And I’m not rooting for Jack. I’ll root for UCLA players who want to finish their years at UCLA until they at least win a championship. I can stomach it better if they are a 1st rounder like Clark but come on…think about if Jack returned and Clark returned and both ended up 1st team all americans and UCLA won the conference championship. Both maybe in the top 5?

Why do you and others accept mediocrity?

Just think if Hundley stayed for his redshirt senior year instead of settling for 5th round. Rosen would have redshirted? Just think if Ellis McCarthy didn’t leave early.

What about if Benenoch and Redmond and Duarte all returned also.

          • NYC Bruin

No what wasn’t? and I tried to make a bet, which you would have won and you never agreed to the terms, otherwise my screen name would be “Forever Redshirt” or something.

I think you and I view the world through different lenses, which makes for more enligtining interaction than any echo chamber could provide and in my opinion that makes us both better.

What speculations did I make up? Here is where your generation differs with mine, what is wrong with the easier way out? Easier doesn’t always mean worse or lazy, sometimes its smarter. IMHO, I thought Jack focusing on rehabing with professionals and focusing 100% on football was the better move. What good would it have done for him to stick around to the end of the season? Do you think he will be utilizing anything he learned in the classroom over the next decade?

Neither Barr nor EK had a serious knee injury, it’s not an apples to apples comparison. I would have loved to have MJ back next year, but what if he blew out his knee again like Lattimore and could never play again, would it have been the right move then?

I think Jack will be a great NFL player if healthy, but neither you, I or Dr. James Andrews can predict his future health with any degree of certainty.

I don’t accept mediocrity, I accept reality. UCLA took a several steps backward from 1998 through 2011. Mora has really upgraded the program from where it was, you can’t just stay in the 90’s and say why isn’t UCLA where it was, it doesn’t work that way. I don’t know whether Mora is the guy to lead us into the future, but I can say without any reservation that if / when he leaves the program is in far better shape then when he found it.

I would have loved for Hundley to come back, we might have won it all this year and he might have gone #1 overall this year, which would have made my attempt of supporting an NFL team a lot easier (Rams). But he didn’t stay, I don’t think he would have stayed at any program after his junior year, he and his family had a plan and they followed through on it, although they didn’t anticipate the some of the twist and turns that path provided. Same goes for Benenoch and Duarte (Redmond had like a 1.6 GPA and failed 2 classes in the fall, he was done regardless), but either way I’ll be rooting for all of them.

Congrats again LR, you were right about where MJ would go in the draft. I look forward to a non-argumentitive response, considering that I didn’t really argue with you.

          • Laker Rod

LOL!!! You’ve proven out to be the stupid one all on your own. You got clobbered and you know it. HA HA HA!

And if Kenny Clark stayed for his senior year he could have ended up top 5 pick dummy.

You don’t get it. I repeat…I don’t mind UCLA players leaving early so long as they won a conference championship. Get it through your thick skull. You simply settle for mediocrity. It’s no wonder since you’re so mediocre yourself.

You get slaughtered every time. LOL!! You claimed Myles Jack would be a 1st rounder. HA HA HA!!! WRONG!! YOU WERE WRONG YET AGAIN

          • 88 Straight

Mediocre would be several levels up from where you live.

Just saw a RS So from Stanford go in the 3rd round. I guess they do have players leave early.

Keep changing your stories. My favorite is how you graduated from UCLA! You are a self proclaimed liar. We all laugh at you and your best DB!

          • Laker Rod

HA HA HA!! 88Straight wrong for the 88th straight time. LOL!! YOU GOT CLOBBERED YET AGAIN. Time for another name change formerly ProbationU. Want to get away?

Come on. Man up and admit I was right and you were WRONG. LOL!!!!

You lost the bet and you know it.

            1. You were wrong about true frosh Josh Rosen and UCLA could possibly win a conference championship.
            2. You were wrong arguing with me claiming UCLA would not lose their first 2 of 3 conference games in 2015.
            3. You were wrong arguing against me pertaining to UCLA vs USC if the division title was on the line.
            4. You were wrong about Chris Clark. You called him a baby later after promoting him to play and possibly start.
            5. You were WRONG about Myles Jack being a 1st rounder.

Too many wrongs from you to list. LOL!!

            HA HA HA!!!

          • 88 Straight

More lies. You really have no life, no wife and no friends. I feel sorry for you. Enjoying a kid’s lifelong dream not being fulfilled because of an injury. You simply have no class and no character.

However, you did invent a new word. Wrongness. You are quite the fool.

          • Laker Rod

LOL!!! HA HA HA!! YOU LOST THE BET. Time for another name change for you.

          • 88 Straight

UCLA grad! LOL Dodging that question every time. Coward.

          • NYC Bruin

UCLA played in a de facto title game for the south, you’re saying under no circumstances that UCLA could have won that game and played for a conference title? There is a big difference between could and would, they most definitely were in position to play for the title going into the last week. You make it sound like they would have lost to USC 100 out of 100 times.

          • 88 Straight

Little Rodney is not smart. Originally he said Kenny Clark was a fool to leave school early and now he is Clark’s #1 fan! No class at all.

          • Laker Rod

UCLA lost plain and simple and it was because Josh Rosen played like a true frosh. Admit it. You got humiliated as usual. LOL!!! You are never right.

          • Laker Rod

Way back in spring 2015 or so, I told 88Straight that UCLA was NOT winning any conference championship with a true frosh QB in Josh Rosen. Historical evidence showed true frosh QB’s don’t perform very well. He tried to argue against this claiming Rosen is the exception.

I even told 88Straight and predicted that UCLA would lose their first 2 of 3 conference games. 88Straight tried to argue against this.

I told 88Straight that if it came down to the divisional title between UCLA vs USC that UCLA would not win because UCLA had the true frosh QB and USC had the experienced QB. This was well before the season started. I said that if neither team was playing for the divisional title then I could possibly see UCLA/Rosen beating USC at the Coliseum. 88Straight tried to argue against this also. Look how it ended up. Look at how the true frosh choked when something important was on the line. That is what historically usually happens.

All of my predictions are based off of good historical evidence and logic which is why I end up correct. 88Straight goes off of illogical wish for the best scenarios which is why he always ends up losing.

YOU lost the bet also pertaining to Myles Jack.

          • NYC Bruin

Fair enough. The point I was making is that UCLA was in until the week of the season, but if you called us losing to USC, good on ya, I guess.

I can’t lose a bet you never agreed to, but yes MJ sadly fell out of the first round. As much as it pains me to say this, you were right, ugh. I still think he will “play like a first rounder”, time will tell though.

          • 88 Straight

He kept changing the terms. He later backed off his 2nd round claim to the “play like a first rounder” bet. He just likes to change it up because he is a pathological liar.

          • NYC Bruin

88, we’re fellow travelers, so please don’t take this the wrong way. Don’t drop to his level, it’s beneath you and your degree.

          • 88 Straight

Just trying to keep him honest. Remember, he never wanted to bet based upon where Jack would actually be drafted, because he was afraid some “dumb GM” would draft him in the 1st round. So, he wanted to bet you based upon Jack “playing like a 1st rounder.” Technically, Jack can still “play like a 1st rounder” even as a 2nd rounder. If Jack stays healthy and makes the “all rookie” team, there will be more denials from the little liar.

          • NYC Bruin

Totally agree. Just reading through the thread it appears you let him get to you more than you should.

On another note, I had a long response to you not being as “bullish” as me on the upcoming season that go blocked, so I’ll give it a shot now.

I think the conference is ripe for the taking, we have the best QB in the Pac-12 coming back and also have an incredibly experienced and deep defense (9 guys started last year, not including Moreau and EV). I think getting out of the first 3 weeks with 2 wins is key and I also think 3 wins is very doable. If we can establish the run, which all reports from spring indicate we will that will open the window for Rosen out of play action. There has also been a lot of doubts about KP, but I’ve talked to the guy in person a few times at donor events and he thinks about football the way great investors think about companies or the way a general looks at a battle field. He truly relishes talking and thinking about the most complex and granular areas of the game. I’ve also talked to Mazzone in the past and came away far less impressed. Our offense will be incredibly nimble and will we will have a play caller with the guts and humility to adjust a game plan to the defense we are facing. With all that being said, I’m an optimist, so take the previous paragraph with a full shaker of salt.

          • 88 Straight

My main concern is about the OL. If the line develops, it could be a good year. A good QB is important but he needs to be protected. We will see. I was not a Mazzone fan. I was in favor of Mazzone being replaced by KP. I think Mazzone cost UCLA 2-3,games last year. We will see how KP does.

          • NYC Bruin

There is still a lot to be determined with the OL, you have to remember that the bulk of physical development is not made from the end of the season to the spring, but from the spring to the following season. We also have that kid from Texas (Jake Raulerson) coming in, which really leaves 1 question mark along the line. We are good at Tackle with McDermott and Miller, then Quesenberry and Raulerson in the interior, which really leaves one guard spot up for grabs. Now we will need someone to step up, but I don’t think the O-line is going to be as big a problem as spring practice indicated.

You also have to keep in mind that we have real dudes on DL now. From all reports available, Takk seems like he’s poised for an all conference type year and we have several guys that are considered veterans in Dickerson, Ankou and Mariner. This is isn’t even including Nick Terry, KLS, Rick Wade and Deon Hollins. Just typing this gets me excited about our defensive front next year and I haven’t even mentioned EV.

          • 88 Straight

Well, I certainly hope you are right. I would imagine we have new blocking schemes to implement which the line may prefer. We have a good trip of running backs as well. I think some guys will emerge as receivers. The line will be the key. I like your optimism. If the offense can do a better job of possessing the ball it should also help the defense.

          • Laker Rod

We do have new blocking schemes and the dumb coaches as usual are making too many drastic changes. It won’t be as bad as when RN decided to switch to the pistol but still…kind of dumb to be making these types of changes. You being the dummy you are predicted this would be an improvement and made it sound like it would be an easy transition but it has not worked out that way now has it. WRONG AGAIN on your part.

          • Laker Rod

Counting on a new comer player has yet to even arrive is not good.

          • NYC Bruin

Is it ideal, no But the guy has started at a Big 12 school, which is certainly better than say starting a true freshman, no? Hey, I could be wrong, Malcom Bunche was a total bust under similar circumstances.

          • Laker Rod

Why are we not able to rely on Scott Quessenberry, Kenny Lacy, and Poasi Moala…at least. Can’t Adrian Klemm develop them?

What’s going on with Zach Batemen? Why did Klemm even bother to get him? If Bunche didn’t develop or blossom and the same for Bateman what makes you think another new guy is going to help.

          • NYC Bruin

I put Quesenberry as a guy we could rely on. Lacy and Moala

          • Laker Rod

Interesting. Back in April 2014, when Goines was going through his injury issues…it was reported Poasi Moala was taking 1st team reps. The as usual ignorant UCLA fanbase was claiming at the time that this “newcomer” redshirt frosh would be a starter. LOL!!

Kind of like no different than when it was reported that Andre James was getting 1st team reps and I tried to tell Jack Wang that getting 1st team reps in Spring ball doesn’t mean anything. I showed him what he reported the year before on Poasi Moala. The difference between Thuc Nhi and Mr. Jack Wang is that Wang was more “opinionated” in what he reported. He insinuated based on these 1st team reps that these certain new guys would end up starting. This is no different than the other UCLA reporting sites and the uneducated UCLA fan base as usual buys it.

And Lacy didn’t struggle enough to lose his starting job. Who used to false start more. The main culprits were Redmond and Benenoch and you know it. In fact, Benenoch was struggling at right tackle also. The coaches felt it was better to bring in Kolton Miller at right tackle and move Benenoch inside at RG and move Redmond to LG. So this is how Lacy was no longer starting on the O line.

And the point is this…UCLA has far more guys who don’t develop than teams like Alabama or Stanford, etc. You know it so quit making up excuses for Klemm.

You make it sound like redshirting has no relevance. You’re way off and you know it. Connor McDermott is a grey shirt. He’s from the 2011 class who deferred enrollment just like Jerry Neuheisel did. We’ll see how this one works out also as to where McDermott gets drafted.

And make some sense. Getting drafted or picked up by NFL teams isn’t “the” measure of success for a college football coach or assistant. The measure of success is WINS. The sad fact of the matter is that UCLA has one of the more “talented” teams this past year but yet still couldn’t even with the Pac-12 South. WAKE UP.

And you have no clue what you’re talking about. Having Josh Rosen is a good thing….duh….but we need to get maximum output out of him…got it? And this maximum output isn’t QUANTITY which is what you lame brains are going for. I want QUALITY. This is why the UCLA coaches should have been in the position where Rosen could have redshirted. Don’t you get it? YOU never answer this point. Andrew Luck redshirted. So did Marcus Mariotta. Kevin Hogan stayed all 5 years and won 3 conference championships when he played. He wasn’t the most “talented” QB from an NFL prospect standpoint but Shaw and Stanford got the job done.

What’s better? Winning the conference championship or getting more guys into the NFL? Make some sense. You seem to think getting more guys into the NFL is better.

And 88Straight tried to make a point on how a redshirt sophomore left Stanford early to enter the NFL draft. Stanford won the conference championship DUMMY. That player has earned some right to leave. UCLA players leave early without winning anything.

          • 88 Straight

Except the kid at Stanford went in the 3rd round and passed up a Stanford education. Perhaps you think he could just tell everyone he graduated and that would count! And the fact that you said that Stanford never has players leave early doesn’t seem to hold true. Your response? Yet another pivot.

And UCLA has been red shirting a lot more players the last 2 years, particularly on the line which is the most important area to redshirt. It’s something you fail to recognize. They played more freshman early because the cupboard was bare when the staff arrived. I doubt you will see a try’s freshman play on the OL this year unless there are a lot of injuries.

          • Laker Rod

Stanford guy won a conference championship which is a lot more than any UCLA player can say.

Boss should redshirt. Again shows the lack of depth and poor planning by the coaches.

YOU LOST THE BET. MAN UP. YOU WERE WRONG.

          • 88 Straight

What would you know about manning up? You still won’t explain why you lied about graduating from UCLA. Isn’t it time for you to explain that you have low self esteem and have trying to impress others. Isn’t that at the root of all your middle school antics and insults?

          • Laker Rod

Falling back on the same old lie like it’s something important. LOL!!

You’ve proven how dumb you are. Remember how you were bragging after the first game of the season. LOL!!! HA HA HA!! What a tool! Main concern is about the OL. LOL!! Maybe two true juniors shouldn’t have let early. Maybe they should have redshirted dummy. They leave early to be a possible 3rd rounder or worse. Wow. I guess UCLA isn’t a fun place to play at.

          • 88 Straight

How would you know what it is like to attend a top flight university? Maybe the ones that left early couldn’t handle being a student? I am sure you can identify with that. At least they won’t have to lie about attending.

          • Laker Rod

Sore loser. LOL!! How can anybody be so dumb. You thought Jack was a 1st rounder. LOL!! HA HA HA!!!

          • Laker Rod

WRONG! As the draft was taking place…I called you and NYCBruin out. Jack had yet to be picked even after the 20th pick. You like the dummy you are tried to say…no no no…don’t try to make it about him not being in the top 20…you said 2nd round.

I said yup…Jack deserves to be a 2nd rounder. I asked how about you…you said 1st round. The bet was yet again confirmed here. Each pick went by and you were growing more and more nervous and you know it.

4 picks left…I already boldly claimed GET READY TO EAT CROW.

I even counted down further…2 picks left. You being the JELLYFISH and WIMP you are NEVER made any bold response back like Jack will be picked in the 1st round. LOL!!! It’s all there in writing and you know it. YOU GOT CLOBBERED. HUMILIATED. SLAUGHTERED. So did NYCBruin which is why he disappeared.

You being the gutless POS you are…would have been claiming..”you lost the bet…you lost the bet…blah blah blah”…if Jack was taken in the 1st round and you know it. Quit lying. That’s all you’re good for. You’re pathetic. Out of all the dumb Bruin fans I have come across you’re by the worst. You have no ethics at all and you are truly dumb about the sport. You can’t get anything right.

YOU JUST GOT SLAUGHTERED YET AGAIN.

          • 88 Straight

Yeah, you were great DURING the draft AFTER the news of Jack’s additional knee problems has been disclosed after leaks all week long. Typical Liar Rod jumping in after it was obvious where it was headed! Such a child. Is this all you’ve got? Clearly it is. Everything else you have claimed is a LIE.

          • 88 Straight

You calling someone a liar is hilarious.

You have lied about what should be the most important parts of your life. You invented a UCLA degree, a job and your wife and family. Enjoy what you think is a win. It isn’t important. You are simply a liar and a loser.

          • Laker Rod

LOL!! Talked to Mazzone and came away far less impressed. It would serve you some good saying this before he even left Mr. Monday QB.

This thread totally shows how I clobbered 88Straight. Even before the 1st round was even over I boldly predicted Jack was not going to be taken. I told 88 Straight he was going to eat CROW and he did.

          • NYC Bruin

Yes, very brave. After the 25th pick you start making predictions. How courageous of you.

          • Laker Rod

Wrong. I said it after the 20th pick. Where were YOU? Hiding as usual.

Remember…Jack was supposedly going to get picked in the 1st round per every knucklehead out there. If Jack was…you would have been on here way earlier and you know it. You guys would be saying…it was so obvious Jack was a 1st rounder. LOL!!!

          • NYC Bruin

Pardon me, still, super courageous of you, so lifting your position 2/3rds through the first round. You should open a sports book, I’d be happy to make bets midway though the 1st quarter.

          • Laker Rod

Lame. You didn’t make any prediction. You went into hiding as usual.

And don’t make up lies. The parameters were set:

            1. Myles Jack must be taken in the first round for you to win and Jack must be taken in the 2nd round for me to win flat out. Those were your OWN conditions.
            2. I added in…Jack must play like a 1st rounder to show he deserved to be picked there. I gave you a proper example of how plenty of NFL teams made big mistakes. You never did answer this part and YOU never wanted to commit to this condition. Why? If you were so confident that Jack was going to excel in the NFL it should have been a no brainer for you.

Here is the reason why you wouldn’t commit. It’s because deep down you knew there was a possibility Jack may not play well. All you were doing was going off of what the draft experts were saying and so long as Jack was taken in the 1st round that was good enough for you. Right?

And face it. If Jack was taken in the 1st round…both YOU and 88Straight would have just fallen on Bet #1 portion above and you know it. YOU BOTH LOST. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. YOU GOT SLAUGHTERED. Like taking candy from a baby for me.

Why don’t you go to the NFL Draft Profile on Myles Jack. Look it up. Search through the comments. You’ll see me telling everybody how overrated Myles Jack is/was. I was right. YOU WERE WRONG.

          • 88 Straight

All caps. The sign of a juvenile mind.

          • Laker Rod

LOL!!! YOU LOST THE BET. 88Straight thinks there are 36 picks in the 1st round.

          • 88 Straight

You had no bet with anyone. The bet you keep referring to was as real as your UCLA degree and your wife. Imaginary.

          • Laker Rod

You lost the bet. You said Jack 1st round. Don’t lie. I told you…you were going to eat CROW and you know it. It’s all there in the history books. HA HA HA. YOU’VE BEEN HUMILIATED. LOL!!

Okay, I’m done being reasonable with you. Why do you lie on a message board? People can literally see what you’ve written, they know you’re not telling the truth. Where did you did you go to college? Football coaches U, don’t think that worked out so well, considering that you’ve been on a message board instead of an NFL war room. If you think I’m hiding from you, you’re more diluted than I thought, my life doesn’t revolve around Internet message boards, like yours clearly does. I also get paid in carried interest, which means can’t always be here for you Rodney. In the meantime, your almost 60, try to learn how to communicate without using all caps. I asked several times for quantative parameters on the MJ bet, your were either too stupid or scared to come up with any. You can’t win a bet you didn’t agree too, you’re the guy with a lottery number but never bought a ticket, please show me where you agreed? You can’t.
Did you really serial stalk MJ? Your pathetic little soul goes all over the Internet trashing Myles Jack, you sad little excuse of a man.

          • Laker Rod

HA HA. Touched a nerve. Too bad you got slaughtered in your bet against me. I guess there are 36 picks in the 1st round of the NFL draft per you and dumb friend 88Straight. HA HA HA!! LOL!!!

          • 88 Straight

Google aspergers. Therein could lie the answer.

          • NYC Bruin

It’s alot simpler than that: his bitterness towards anyone with talent / options is palpable. The amount of time he spent trashing MJ on the far reaches of the web show a clear and unhealthy obsession. Also, consider some of his comments, where he says “due to lack of football knowledge, someone is an embarrassment to UCLA”, that’s insane, think about that statement, then realize this is a 55+ year old guy saying it, just incredible. I think the diagnoses is this: little rodney is a marginalized middle aged white male who never developed the skills to compete in the modern economy, so he spends his days on message boards yelling about immigrants and black kids who would dare leave school early to make more in their first year working than he will in his entire life. The Atlantic had an interesting article on the figurative impotence of unskilled middle age white men, Rodney comes here, so he can feel tough & important, while hiding his true sad and pathetic identity behind a screen name.

          • 88 Straight

Seems on target to me. Don’t think I’d bet against it.

I would much rather be wrong every now and then than to be suffering a fool such as your friends have to suffer through you, if you have any friends. Enjoy little Rodney. You are simply a tool who has to lie about his existence and about graduating college. And you enjoy watching Myles Jack lose money. That speaks volumes about you.

          • Laker Rod

I am enjoying this. It’s great witnessing your HUMILIATION first hand. LOL!!! What a poor puny little old man you are in defeat.

Your problem is….you’re always WRONG. HA HA HA!!

          • 88 Straight

You are truly a child. You are too dumb to realize everyone laughs at your juvenile rants. Why do you think it was so obvious that you were lying when you claimed to be a UCLA grad? Laugh all you want. Celebrate all you want. If this is your big moment, it speaks volumes!

          • Laker Rod

The only dumb one is you.

            1. You claimed UCLA could win a conference championship with true frosh Josh Rosen. Remember how you were bragging and gloating after the 1st game of the season? LOL!!! HA HA HA!! This truly shows how dumb you are.

            2. You claimed Chris Clark could start as a true frosh. LOL!!

            3. You argued against me that UCLA would not lost it’s first 2 of 3 conference games.

            4. You argued against me that if it came down to the division title for both UCLA and USC…that UCLA would not win. YOU lost yet again.

            5. You bet Myles Jack would be a 1st rounder. YOU LOST.

It’s proven who the dumb one. It’s the supposed UCLA graduate. LOL!!! HA HA HA!! Man…I’m enjoying this 🙂 You probably have not slept well in days. LOL!!!

          • 88 Straight

Your answers merely shows that once again you didn’t understand the question. Not surprising.

          • Laker Rod

LOL!! Didn’t lose a bet never agreed to? YOU never agreed on the point of if Jack was taken in the 1st round I said he had to play like a 1st rounder. There are plenty of dumb teams who took Manziel in the 1st round and look at what a bust he turned out to be.

The fact is…Jack didn’t even pass the first qualifier bet of him being taken in the 1st round which YOU and 88straight wanted to bet me on. LOL!!! YOU BOTH LOST AND YOU KNOW IT.

And just for you info…I pretty much called the entire season out for UCLA way back like last early summer for 2015.

I predicted UCLA would got 3-0 non-conference. They would lose their first 2 of 3 conference games. So they would already be under the radar but could see them winning the middle games but also losing to Stanford. And also in the end…I said if it came down to the division title against USC….UCLA would not beat USC at the Coliseum with a true frosh QB plain and simple. It would be no different for me to predict that there was no way a USC QB was going to beat UCLA at the Rose Bowl if anything important was on the line for both teams…e.g. conference (in the past) or division title.

Wow, we had a bet now? LOL. It must be the same as everything else in your life. Imaginary. The great Liar Rod!

          • Laker Rod

Your responses are non-responses. You LOST. Plain and simple.

YOU WERE WRONG. You can’t even man up and admit it. At least NYCBruin did.

          • 88 Straight

You can’t read nor remember nor tell the truth.

First, you and I never discussed a bet.

You discussed a bet with NYC about where Jack would be drafted. You then tried to change the terms to Jack having to “play like a first rounder.” NYC did not agree to those terms. Therefore, you had no bet.

So, no matter how many times you turn on your CAPS LOCK, it doesn’t make you right.

You backed off your original statement and went to the “play like a first rounder” standard and now are attempting to have it both ways, which is typical for you.

Enjoy your boasting all you want. But some of us are quite aware of the truth.

          • Laker Rod

LOL!! What a liar. Even within this own thread we settled it. YOU said Jack 1st round and I said 2nd round. YOU LOST.

            YOU WERE WRONG. MAN UP

You are wrong again, your WRONGNESS!!

I am laughing at you big time with your ability to invent words that don’t exist. One thing I know for sure, you have never been in a position to promote anyone. Simply a fry cook.
