Megan McNamara was named the Pac-12 beach volleyball freshman of the year on Thursday, the eve of the inaugural NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships.
McNamara, who often plays with her twin sister Nicole McNamara, had 16 victories at the No. 1 spot for the Bruins this year. The pair of twins won 14 matches together and were named to the All-Pac-12 first team as well as the All-Pac-12 freshman team. The McNamaras advanced to the semifinal of the Pac-12 pairs tournament, losing to Arizona’s Madison and McKenna Witt (also a pair of twins).
UCLA senior Kamila Tan was named to the All-Pac-12 second team and Zana Muno was named to the freshman team.
The Bruins start play in the NCAA tournament on Friday against Hawa’i at 10 a.m. UCLA has the fourth seed in the tournament and is one of three Pac-12 schools in the eight-team bracket. No. 2 USC and No. 6 Arizona will also compete this weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The NCAA tournament will be televised live on truTV on Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the championship will air on Sunday at 11 a.m. on TBS. Live streaming of every court will be on NCAA.com.
