Jim Mora on Rich Eisen Show: Will it be Manziel or Brady for Rosen’s future?

UCLA head coach Jim Mora stopped by the Rich Eisen Show to talk about plenty of things including his experience at the NFL Draft, Myles Jack and Josh Rosen.

Of Rosen, Mora said that if his quarterback had been in the draft this year, the soon-to-be sophomore would have been the best signal-caller available and “he would have gone first.”

“I know that is really a strong statement for a true freshman,” Mora continued. “I’ve been around Peyton (Manning) when he was that age. I can’t remember ever seeing anybody at his age with the arm talent, the intelligence, the decision making, the drive, the passion and the ability he has.”

Despite such a strong statement in favor of his quarterback, Mora also said he’s been candid with Rosen, saying that “it’s just a pipe dream” unless Rosen takes advantage of the opportunities in front of him.

“Who do you want to be?” Mora said of his advice. “Do you want to be a Johnny Manziel or do you want to be Tom Brady? You make that decision right now. and you need to start working in that direction right now.”

Mora addressed Rosen’s “(expletive) Trump” Instagram post from April, calling it a decision that was trending in the Johnny Manziel direction.

  • The Cadre Must Go!

Hopefully, those “strong statements” will help to steer Rosen in the right direction so that he can remain humble, and keep his ego in check, despite being compared by Mora to Peyton Manning.

    • Laker Rod

The fact that Jim Mora has to direct these types of questions/comments to Josh Rosen at this stage or a bit earlier is a bit concerning.

      • The Cadre Must Go!

It’s a completely different generation, especially with social media, and kids mature at different rates, especially kids who have told how great they are during their formative years. The fact that some of his poor decision making (the Tweet of him wearing the “F*** Trump” baseball hat) would justify Mora feeling compelled remind Rosen of his golden opportunity at UCLA with his comment “Do you want to be a Johnny Manziel or do you want to be Tom Brady?” Or Todd Marinovich or Troy Aikman? Eating a little humble pie once in awhile isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

        • Laker Rod

Well…maybe Jim Mora shouldn’t be putting these egomaniacs in a position to start in the first place. Mora showers Chris Clark with all this love of fake press clippings saying Clark will be the next Gronk.

How about Rosen? If Jim Mora was a better coach and recruited better at the QB spot to begin with and actually developed them…he would not have had to start Rosen to begin with. Rosen would have already been humbled. Action speaks louder than words.

I am sure it’s a problem you will never have to deal with. Nobody is showering you with much praise. Your jealousy is showing again. So sad.

          • Laker Rod

Yeah right. Considering how Rosen failed miserably losing to USC and Kessler….but hey whatever floats your boat.

          • 88 Straight

You never answer the diploma question? Why is that?

Rosen already more successful than you will ever be. That’s why you dislike him. But then, most people are much more successful than you. You can’t even spell success let alone sniff it. Rage on, loser!

          • Laker Rod

Changing the subject again? Wait…per you did Rosen beat USC? LOL!!!

          • 88 Straight

Funny how you NEVER answer that one. Typical of the liar you are. Mr. “Sucess”!!! Can’t even lie your way to a diploma.

          • Laker Rod

Rosen only has two season left because dumb Jim Mora played him as a true frosh. In the mean time…Nick Saban redshirted 5 star 2015 recruit Blake Barnett. Wake up.

Don’t change the subject again. Stick to FOOTBALL dummy.

          • 88 Straight

Still no answer. Someone is afraid of the truth.

          • 88 Straight

UCLA lost a game. Rosen has a bright future. He is also smart.

You are a failure in life and stupid. Ponder that Mr. “Sucess.” You can’t even lie your way to a diploma. It’s obvious you are jealous of Josh Rosen.

He and his teammates lost to USC and Cody Kessler. You have NEVER even been in the game, any game.

          • Laker Rod

Bright future? He only has two seasons left because dumb Jim Mora decided to play him as a true freshman. Wake up.

All you’re good for are you personal insults non-related to football. Proves you suck in your knowledge about the sport.

          • 88 Straight

You call everyone liar and stupid. When I point out your lies and stupidity, you whine and say stick to football. If you can’t handle it, stop insulting all Bruin fans. Mr. Sucess can’t handle being called out on his lies and stupidity.

Own up to the big lie, Mr. Sucess. No spine?

          • j metaphor

            Right, L.R.
As you pointed out many times, we Rosen wasn’t ready to start, he should have redshirted.

          • Laker Rod

Yeah…he should have. We finished 8-5…Mora’s worst record yet. Lost to USC also. And now we have Rosen making all kinds of statements. Maybe he should shut up like his coach told him to.

      • 88 Straight

Yes, I’m sure you were much more mature when you were attending UCLA…..oh wait…you lied about that! LOL

        • Laker Rod

Lame dumb attack as usual. Why don’t you address the point about Rosen. Seems like starting him as a true frosh has gone to his head. Gee…where have we heard this before. Wake up.

          • 88 Straight

You really dislike a kid you know nothing about. It really isn’t about him. It’s about your need to always go negative about successful people with more talent.

I don’t know Josh Rosen. He may be a cocky little jerk. He may not be. His parents, his coaches and his teammates probably know. You have no idea.

What IS clear is your envy. Very sad, Liar Rod.

          • The Cadre Must Go!

“…need to always go negative about successful people with more talent.” …Sounds like you’re describing Scott Wolf

          • Laker Rod

LOL!!!! Now you think Rosen could be a cocky little jerk? Ha ha ha!! Kind of like how you were pulling for Chris Clark and he made a FOOL of you then you called him a baby. Ha ha ha!!

          • 88 Straight

The point is I don’t know Josh Rosen. Neither do you. Reading comprehension, Rodney. Chris Clark made a fool of himself, just like you do daily.

          • Laker Rod

Chris Clark made a FOOL of you. LOL!!! You claimed he could possibly start as a true frosh. You have no clue about college football. You continually prove it.

          • 88 Straight

You are dumb beyond words. And a liar. Not a great combo. No wonder your are such a “sucess”!! LOL

          • Laker Rod

Changing the subject again? You claimed Chris Clark could possibly start. LOL!!!! HA HA HA!!!! Wrong as usual. LOL!!!! WRONG88Straight

          • 88 Straight

More lies from Mr. Sucess! LOL

  • mark

Does that mean Mora isn’t going to humiliate him in front of the team this August?

  • Bigwoof1

I like Mora a lot, but comparing Rosen’s political statement calling out a true menace to our country does not compare to Manziel’s drinking, carousing, and womanizing, and just plain being an asshole. Maybe he could have been a little more subtle, but he’s a kid and expressing his feelings.

when foreign leaders, who generally refrain from sticking their nose into US political campaigns, call Drumpf “stupid” and “dangerous” that should be a clue of how widely he’s reviled. Wooden didn’t tell Walton to shut up when he protested the Vietnam war.

That numbskull Drumpf could get us into god knows what with his stupid big mouth.

      • Laker Rod

Keep drinking the hildabeast cool aid.

    • j metaphor

Mora is not trying to tell him what to say, he’s trying to forewarn him as to how it may affect his football career.
It’s like being a Dad, BW. have you ever been a Dad?
In the end, Rosen’s fearless nature will either help him in his football career or not but I have a feeling he will always do what he wants, I don’t think dropping to a lower round in the draft because some G.M. doesn’t like his politics will change what Rosen does or says at all. I don’t care what his politics are at all as long as he beats SC.

      • Jethro G Sabbath

Josh only has 2-3 more chances

  • Sam Bam

(Mora holding Rosen’s face) Do you want sell hot tubs or do you want to be Tom Brady?

  • Laker Rod

Hmmm what kind of boneheaded diatribes can I come up with today? I’m clueless …

  • j metaphor

Watch this interview and tell me you wouldn’t want your son playing for Mora. If not, tell me who you would rather have him playing for.
