Year in review: Men’s basketball upsets No. 1 Kentucky

Note: As the school year winds down, we’ll spend time looking back on some of the most memorable moments of the 2015-16 season for UCLA athletics.

Dec. 3, 2015: Men’s basketball upsets No. 1 Kentucky

The majority of the UCLA men’s basketball season was memorable for the wrong reasons, but an 87-77 win over then-No. 1 Kentucky was one of the few high points for the Bruins.

Aaron Holiday had 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Thomas Welsh had 21 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks. Bryce Alford had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.

The Bruins had a disappointing 15-17 season and did not go the NCAA tournament for the first time in four years. UCLA had its first losing season since the 2009-10 season under Ben Howland. Perhaps a season-opening loss to Monmouth was a sign of things to come.
